Don't you have a big ol' full size pick em up truck just for that sort of thing?

How far away from uhaul are you?

    upload_2024-2-2_13-12-21.png

I'll call it 20 bucks for a day. If you use it 5 days a year, that's 100 bucks a year to just rent it.

    upload_2024-2-2_13-13-49.png

I don't quite know how to read this, but in MA you pay 20$ + 20$ per 1k GVRW (I think). So you're paying about the same just to own the thing anyway, after up front purchase costs.

Then you don't have to store it, maintain it, deal with reg/insurance.... :notsure:

    I dunno, I don't trailer much, just a thought.

I can't get the truck to most places where I'd use mulch or soil - septic system in the way that I am not supposed to drive over. If it's already in a trailer, I can move it with the much lighter tractor or ATV, which could drive over that stuff without too much of a worry, but will also maneuver around the tank and leach field.

I've never seen trailers at the tiny close-by U-Haul place, so it'd be a 50 minute drive to get one.

Registration is $20 per 1k, with $20 being the minimum if you happen to have something with a lower GVWR - so 1k is $20, 2k is $40 and so on. My 6k trailer is $120/year. Insurance isn't required for a trailer in MA - I do have it on my car hauler since it's comprehensive enough to cover theft.

I see one of those things driving around occasionally. I wonder where they got it.

That might be light enough to drive on a leach field

My truck's porky due to the hybrid battery. It's 5813 lbs from the factory, probably right around 5900 now with the spray in bed liner, other additions, and the stuff that's always in it. Definitely not driving that over the system.

Holy balls. That's almost 1.5k lbs heavier than mine curb. I think I'm up about a hundred with armor and shenanigans all around.

Kei's are about 1500 lbs, I assume the dump hydros add some weight, probably 2k lbs empty.

I want one, but can't in RI. I won't go on that rant. I see a couple when I go into eastern CT for work, bunch of people with small farms have them over there.

Comparing Ford's specs, the hybrid battery and motor add around 560 lbs.

1500 is so funny for an actual vehicle. The little Kubota utility tractor I want is around 1650 with the mowing deck and front end loader attached.

Is it really an issue driving over a septic system? Whoever installed it most likely was driving a skid steer over it to spread the soil out. They weigh more than a truck.

Supposedly you don't want too much weight on the perforated pipes in the leach field, or over the concrete tank. I've always heard a mower/small tractor is fine, but you're taking chances with a truck. Could be wrong.

Ive been told not to drive over it any of it. My freind actually bought a house that the previous owner had a tractor and crushed one of the pipes going to the leach field. I dont know how big of a tractor it was.

A smaller one with turf tires with good surface area probably isn't an issue from what I've been told. Start getting into heavy machines with R1s or something on it, though, and that's a lot more PSI.

I drive over mine quite a bit as I have to to get to where I park my boat. No issues yet. I wouldn’t drive something heavy like a dump truck, tree service truck or crane over it though.

I put septic systems under driveways all the time - granted its not the most ideal location but sometimes there is no other viable area. If it is a pipe in stone trench, don't sweat it. Standard septic tanks are designed to withstand H-10 loading and leach fields most of the time if installed properly can disperse vehicle weights appropriately without crushing the pipes. If you can avoid driving over them, it is best for the system so you do not crack a line to the leach field, but those fields are installed in 2' of stone which would mitigate any movement.
