    Yes, it is a disease!

I shoot my Henry in competition - so much fun to shoot, and I still keep it pretty.

You know you can build your own Charger, right? Boyds makes a nice stock, and you can pick up a used 10/22 pretty cheap... :D

Samson is coming out with the B-TM stock for the 10/22 Takedown as well.

Does it stand for "Politically Correct" so you can get away with it in Commiefornia? Lol.

Kidding aside. I have had no issues with my various Rugers. 10/22's, Mini 14, Mark iv, some others i am forgetting. I'm betting its pretty solid.

That's like getting a Ferrari as your first car, haha!

It all depends on what he wants the rifle to do though. I firmly agree that everyone should have at least 1 or 2 10/22s. If you want to start down the rabbit hole of more precision .22lr shooting then a CZ-457 is amazing for mid-budget tack driving. And you can't beat the fun of a lever gun if you just want to plink away.

I love my Mini 14. I want to teach my wife the way around firearms heave forbid she is ever in a situation and need to use one, but all my rifles scare her and I think this would be a perfect buy to get her into it.

When teaching anyone to shoot, I always start with a .22.

.22s are just plain fun to shoot! Once you get them hooked on the fun, going to a larger caliber is easy. Once they get over the noise and recoil, they understand it's just like the .22.

    Don't rush, just encourage.

You can also go full gonzo on a custom 10/22. Tacsol, volquartsen, Tactical Innovations, etc. I have an X-ring 10/22 barrel, it is one of the most accurate 22lr rifles I own.

I agree a .22 is what I learned to shoot with. My dad has an old .22 I dont even know what it is, but I could spend a whole day out there and got through 300 rounds with a smile on my face the whole time.

Picked one of these (CZ 457 22 LR) up last year. Fantastic gun - shoots really well and I love the Turkish walnut stock.

Also picked up its big brother in 308 and just in time...CZ looks to be paring down their offering of wood stock centerfires.

But you have to have at least 1 10/22. So upgradable and reliable and useful and fun!

Yesterday I was in a gun store buying some ammo (2000 rounds of 9mm) the the store owner since I was getting 9mm showed me the Ruger PC 9mm carbines. Awesome gun. It breaks down into 2 pieces in about 2 seconds for packing/backpacking. The 2 pieces snap together for easy convenient carrying. It uses 9mm, said to have almost zero noticeable recoil. It has its own Ruger magazines and also Glock 17 magazines fit the gun, they are interchangeable. I believe other Glock magazines fit also. Has a spare magazine in a compartment in the stock. Light weight too. And it is California legal. I’ll be checking it out again in a month.

Ive shot (and own or family owns) a 10/22, Savage MKII, Ruger American 22, CZ 457, and then have a few other "oddball" 22's (AR's with 22 conversions, Sig 522 for example)

10/22 is definitely one of the favorites. Can pretty much do anything with it. Its accurate enough, has tons of after market support, and is just fun to shoot.

.22 rifles are addictive. I probably have 50-60 in my collection. I’ve lost count.

There are lots of good suggestions here. Savage is an incredibly accurate rifle for the money. The CZ bolt guns are just as accurate, but beautiful to look at. Every Ruger .22 is worth owning. I have both a heavily tacticooled 10/22 and a 1970s standard carbine. Both great rifles. My only take-down .22 is an ArmaLite AR7, but the 10/22 takedown looks interesting too. You could spend a lifetime collecting 10/22s.

Vintage bolt action .22 rifles like the Remington 500 series and Mossberg 300s are an excellent bargain. I lean toward bolt actions because most of them are easier to keep clean, and vintage semi-automatics (and a lot of new ones) can be frustrating. Go to Gunbroker and sort .22s different ways and see what’s available.

Once you have your .22, you will officially have a rifle collection. Then you start to think of what’s missing. If you aren’t careful, it will turn into a giant incomplete puzzle that’s always missing one piece.

One of the coolest 22 rifles I used to own was a Winchester 1906 pump. It would shoot long or shorts. Great gun.

Cool and valuable little rifle! I don’t have a single pump .22. That needs to change!

I just inherited a Remington Model 12C takedown pump-action .22 from my dad that was his grandfather's. It will do .22lr, .22long and .22 short.

A little digging into serial number and it looks like it was made in 1920. It is actually the first "real" gun I ever shot beyond an air rifle. I always thought it was just an old Henry or something my dad got when he was a kid until I got ahold of it and started digging.
