The covers are the ticket. Once a little bit of snow, ice or dirt builds up a the bottom of the latch you are done for.

Looks good! Exactly what I want to do with mine but not sure if I want the windows on the shell or not. Any reason you went that direction instead of no side windows?

How old was your smartcap that you returned? I would also like to get rid of mine.

I’m having the exact same issues and to top it off, it’s starting to rust as well. Did you call to complain and they accepted a full return?

Picking up my contour canopy this week and planning on strapping it down just like this. Although it is a 6' i am also thinking about laying it on its side.
Going to have 4 tires in the bed to go along with it for the 100-mile trip back home too. Should be fun

    Definitely.
Probably get it off the pallet if it's too broad.
I'm thinking of laying it at 30ish degree angle over the driver side bed rail to the passenger side wheel well.
Weights not an issue, it's the size and being solo is what I am worried about.
Here's what I'm thinking for how the box is.

i'm wondering why it couldn't be laid down length-wise in the bed, but it may well be that it isn't that structurally sound resting on its side rather than its end.

    Yeah could be.

Or it being shipped vertical is the way alu-cab ships it and no one wants to move it and be liable.
Either way I'll find a public parking area down the street and install it there if I have to.
    Should be exciting!

When I bought mine the guys at mule helped me put it on and line it up straight. I drove around the corner in their parking lot and bolted it down.

Curious how close your rear pods are to the lift gate . I ordered up the brackets, but before I get the pods (was looking at diode dynamics ss2 , ) wanted to see how close it is. I may go with the ss1 instead to make sure it clears.

which makes sense. but it only makes it that much more difficult to reconcile with shops charging 4 hours labor for installation.

eventually yes after many repair attempts. The paint quality was terrible too, I had overspray on the windows and other panels and I had flaking paint after a couple months

I called up many shops, most were charging 4 hours, some were 6-7 hours, ranged around $450-$875. I already have a plug and play 3rd brake light harness and the bedrails and gap are already sealed tight after having the smart cap, some shops insisted on tearing it all out and installing new. I'd be okay with paying for install but no one wanted to adjust for the fact that I just need the shell placed and secured, at most a new connector at the 3rd brake harness.

i guess if the shop is going to warranty the install, they would want to do the whole hog - and get paid for the whole hog. it just doesn't seem that difficult or time consuming.

Yeah I could see that kinda. I couldn't justify it though... with the dealer being 7 hours away, I wasn't going to go to them for any leak that wasn't directly caused by the cap vs the notorious bed gap/ rail leak

    Got the shell.

This rain in California had me doubt myself and getting it installed at home.
upon pick-up, I asked if we can get it installed at the shop but, there were no installers. That's fine, worth the shot. I was too excited to get the shell home.

The team at the shop helped load it by tilt and pushing it on its side and sliding it against the wall.
Wasn't on a pallet incase anyone was wondering. Dimensions: 23"Wx67"Dx81"H

Truck was freshly regeared plus other goodies done by Sibi Built and I had 100 miles to drive back home. After 6 stops of 15-20 mile driving intervals to get the gears broken-in. Here is how the box was looking like after the 5th stop at mile 85 / 5 hours in the rain.

As time and miles go by, so did the cardboard. That's the roof peaking through the soaked boxed.

I will install it once the rain stops so, I can prep the rails and seal everything in a humid-free environment.

I'll keep ya updated once that's done.
