So my friend has a '98 Tacoma V6 MT (Xtra cab). He just called, and he's stranded with a broken (cracked) radiator, way out down an old two track hunting road. I'm headed out to assist.

Will a radiator for a 98 Tacoma with the auto transmission fit his truck, as that's all O'Reilly's has in stock.

I’d expect the only difference is the radiator would have a trans cooler loop built in, you could simply not use those tube connection points.

"Should be" same size other than transmission lines run into radiator on auto trans radiator. If it doesnt have a separate trans cooler.

Typically they only difference between auto and manual radiators is the auto has a transmission cooler installed and connections for the transmission cooler lines. Typically aftermarket radiators are all auto versions.

Putting an auto rad in a manual was a great way to raise capacity in the Miata world of the 90s

Suspect you'll have the same benefit.

    Good luck!

The main stream vendors dont sell the manuals anymore...
because the auto's will work fine in them there is no reason to....

They sell a ton of replacement Denso's......business is good for them.

Thank you all for your input. Bought the AT radiator and drove 3 hours out to my buddy's truck. Swapped out the radiator and made it back bright and early at 5am. Successful but long rescue mission.

Never cease to be amazed with how awesome these 1st gen Tacomas are.

    Reserected from the dead.
The auto rads are taller by 2.5".

Regardless, that rad should have been changed out 10 years ago.

Good deal you got him squared away!
