You will get more if u separate the metals. Meaning a bucket of copper , bucket of aluminum, brass....then just metal.

 

I always do! The compressor also gets a decent amount of it is removed.

 

I got these four nonfunctional window A/C units from my friend Dave; I am going to tear them down split the profits with him.

I helped a friend clear out the home of his late parents so he could sell it back in 2020, and found this circa 1987 Carrier window A/C in the office above the detached garage. I was told it worked, so I plugged it in right there in the driveway and turned it on. Sure enough, it blew ice cold, so I gave him twenty bucks for it with the intention of either installing it in my own bedroom window or cleaning it up to sell for a profit.

A good friend of mine bought a house that same summer that was built in the 1850s. It has oil baseboard heat and a ductless mini-split heat pump in the living room, but no central air. He needed a window unit for his bedroom, so I gave him the Carrier for exactly what I bought it for. It worked fine for two years and then stopped blowing cold, and it's just been taking up space for at least two years...

 

This JC Penney unit was installed in the wall of my friend's garage when he bought the house. It worked until fairly recently and then quit blowing cold...

 

I didn't even know that JC Penney made air-conditioners!

 

We had that exact unit when l was young.

 

This is the unit I use in my room now. It's pretty good for what it is, 12,000 BTUs probably overkill for my room but I'm not going to complain it's on the top floor it gets heat soaked pretty good

 

The Carrier had absolutely no Freon in it, and it made me kinda sad to tear this thing apart because it is LEGIT. The compressor was built by Toshiba in Japan, to Carrier's specifications. Now, the majority of them have garbage Chinese-built compressors...

 

The JC Penney unit has build quality that we will never see again, with no plastic to speak of!

 

Manufactured in November 1978!

 

The blower assembly is actually plastic, but that's about it...

 

This compressor is as big as some central A/C compressors that I've seen!

 

My friend who gave me this can't remember how it got damaged...
