Hello everyone looking for some help and insight into a difficult issue to diagnose. I’ve got a issue with my truck we’re the VSC light flashes as if the truck is slipping but it’s not it’s dry pavement it does it often on curved long turns but as you will see in the video it does it also even going straight. I have changed all 4 wheel speed sensors and done a zero point calibration to no avail , I will say this I changed the steering angle sensor a few months the oem one died after I jumped my truck battery so I bought a cheap eBay one to replace it my vsc light went away but now it flashes. I solved one problem but created another , has anyone experienced this before ?

On my old 2nd Gen that happened right as it was brand new, the dealership had wildly overinflated the tires.

I doubt you are going to be able to figure this out without a copy of Techstream.
So that looks like what the owners/repair manual calls the "SLIP Indicator", just to keep terminology matching Toyota. (The VSC off light is different

I like @shakerhood theory, but mine is along a slightly different tack.
I bet it is the replacement steering sensor, but I would have expected it to throw a code (but that isnt guaranteed). You dont have a check engine light, right?

As far as I have determined, flashing VSC light is created by the TRAC system or VSC system, (not including any 4wd modes or Auto LSD, etc)

So this is a simplification, but the TRAC system uses the wheel speed sensors to look for a wheel with speeds inconsistent to the rest of the vehicle. The VSC system takes vehicle speed, vehicle accelerations (lateral and fore-aft), and yaw rate, and looks for inconsistencies that indicate that truck is spinning out of control. (truck not moving in direction that it should based on your command of the steering wheel.

I bet the VSC system is what is getting tripped. I have ABSOLUTELY NO data to back this up besides intuition, but I bet the steering wheel sensor is providing a very jumpy steering data, and the ECU is thinking the truck is not going where you are commanding. (The chances of the acceleration sensors and yaw sensors being bad is pretty negligible).

I have made the VSC system throw a code when it thinks these sensors are broken, so i feel like its likely the steering angle data is sometimes correct, just sometimes jumping...

Can you see any correlation to the flashing with slight steering vs keeping the steering wheel perfectly constant?

Just my guess. To diagnose, the real time view of this data on techstream would be invaluable.

Thanks for your feedback very well written it’s funny you mention codes for about a month I had no codes and just about 2 hours ago I set off my VSC luckily had my scanner in the truck and got this code no other engine codes or VSC codes only this code the abs module went crazy and pulsated I had to pull over couldn’t even continue driving now I’m almost certain it has something to do with this cheap eBay steering angle sensor I put in just like u say the signal is probably jumpy I have tried to recreate the light going off based on taking the same turns at the same speeds and it’s inconsistent sometimes I go fast into the turn and it dosent flash other times it will so the steering angle sensor is inconsistent but like you say I need tech stream to confirm

I got the same problem except my code is cannot initialize steering angle sensor. I’m pulling my hair out however one day when I was running through the scan tool, a code appeared 1203. I’ve sent some snapshots, which is talking about the brake actuator I’ve tried to initialize 20 times. I cannot figure this out when I drive I get a flashing Vehicle stability control message

Likely steering angle sensor is toasted/junk.

For some reason when toyota batteries die they sometimes take out the steering angle sensor.

This is 100% a steering angle sensor. Replace and do a ABS zero point calibration after.

The first time I replaced, it was just a steering angle sensor the last time I replaced it with clock spring and steering angle sensor. I’m at my wits end if you read a Toyota bulletin, I’ll attach it. The only other thing it was pointing to was the airbag module as it might be a yaw sensor issue I’ve put a brand new one of those as well. The only thing left is the ECU module, a.k.a. ABS module mount on the passenger fender. Well I’m gonna go after that I guess

Here’s another note to mention when I have a few people in the truck I’m getting random ABS breaking to individual wheels

Just trying to learn for the future. Is this "ABS zero point calibration" what @BigWhiteTRD has posted above in post #6?

I’ve learned in Canada. You have to buy the assembly with the clock spring, but another member mentioned I might be able to get the steering angle sensor in the US as a separate unit

I don't have any concrete data myself, but there seems to be plenty evidence linking faulty steering angle sensors to non-OEM replacements.
