I think I'm gonna get a pipe cutter and see if I can be a bit more precise, but without deburring all 5 of these weight between 100-103 gr and height is about dead on, but there is a bit of a slope because I just used a bench grinder and grinded them flush in my jig... I can actually fit 6 brass in there very tight, but I screw one up with the grinder and learned which way not to hold them while doing this... The nails on the side I'm thinking I'll put wire on to lower and raise them into my pot IMG_20240203_151646_225.jpg IMG_20240203_152653_507.jpg IMG_20240203_163910_462.jpg

I've also just made a sabot from HDPE... Using 1/2" PVC (which is actually like .6" id btw) a chapstick lid as a spacer in the PVC and a .243 brass... I'm about ready to kill a deer with all recycled materials lol as soon as I get some old wheel weights IMG_20240203_174201_216.jpg IMG_20240203_174255_169.jpg

Yes in that video, he made bullets to use for reloading his 45-70. I'm starting off with muzzleloader bullets because I have a large margin for error that the sabot can make up. If it goes well I will get a sizer and get my cases down a few .001. so all my sabots a a little different, I figured out how to get them off the mold case without splitting them, but somehow when I put them on all my cases/jackets the weights all came out to 107.5 gr so somehow my variations have just cancelled themselves out lol. It's way too slow to do these one at a time, I'd have to figure out a way to line up a bunch to mold and then trim the excess. They are quite a bit shorter than the Thompson center sabots but those have like a 1/4" hollow base, so bullet coverage is pretty close. I have access to a near unlimited amount of HDPE because of my work(I even thought about make a mold to press a gun stock, but that seems like a lot of work)

So after cleaning my muzzleloader even with a brass brush, there was an area near the breach that was still pretty cruddy, and I had seen where people have been using a mild metal polish (making sure aggregate is aluminum or silicates) and it generally improves accuracy, and they say with muzzleloaders it may even make it easier to load, as it smooths out some tooling marks... Like a lesser version of lapping a barrel. Well I tried it. The first piece is "clean" from the last time I cleaned it, then a picture after I ran the polish through with several passes in both directions, and the final is after I ran dry patches and oil and dry patches again. The pics are terrible because I'm holding my gun towards a light and trying to line my phone up over the muzzle... Maybe I need a bore scope lol. But it is dang near a mirror finish looking down now. IMG_20240208_164947_826.jpg IMG_20240208_162645_110~2.jpg IMG_20240208_163849_409~2.jpg IMG_20240208_164606_783~2.jpg
I'm probably gonna do the same thing to my .243s and see if I can bring back the accuracy of old...

I have relatively high hopes, I mean the logic is sound. Tooling marks run perpendicular to the riflings, this negatively impacting bullet travel, so smoothing out the marks so reduce negativity... The intense lapping videos I watched did raise concerns that you could make the barrel too large essentially, due to over working the compound and wearing away the lands, but they all finished with a polishing compound like what I used (variety of name brands) and while any polishing is actually removing a bit of material, it should be quite minimal. I think I have seen people use what I bought for taking a matte SS finish to a polished finish on handguns... I may be blinging out my revolver next lol

Brownells JB non embedding bore compound. Why reinvent the wheel?

If you want a challenge try throwing.a lead slug using iron sights from a side lock or better yet, a flint lock. $5 says that brass case frankenstien won’t hit a pie plate at 50 yards.

Green scotch brite saturated with jb compound on a brush and rod chucked in a cordless drill will clean up tool marks in a shotgun bore. Have done a half dozen or more. Rifles you just make lapping passes with jb compound on a patch. Got a bore scope and it clearly shows results. Also, GunBlue490 on YouTube is about the most non BS I’ve found.

kind of silly question but would aluminum or copper anti-seeze work to lap:anonymous:. we use Clover lapping compound at work.

We walked the farm on the annual squirrel hunt this afternoon. Found fresh scrapes all around the privet edges. Still some running going on it seems.

I don't mean to be rude, but I don't believe I've ever seen anything as easy as shooing an inline muzzle-loader turned into such a convoluted clusterfuck.

Buy Blackhorn powder, buy saboted bullets of your choice, buy primers. Shoot gun. Many, many times with the Blackhorn. Run three or four treated swabs down barrel. Run three or four dry swabs down barrel. Put gun up. Why make this as hard as you possibly can?
