Why is the 2024 price more than the 2016?

I keep seeing people complain about pricing. Here are some graphs on one of the reasons why.

 

All that, plus the 4th gen has way more features than previous gens. The TRD OR with upgrade package is on par with my wife's 2016 RX350.

But but but I bought my Gen2 for 20K OTD in 2005....

 

F-series trucks use all aluminum bady panels and cab structures. Ford has also increased prices, there are also Tacomas which cost more than som F-series trucks when there is more aluminum being used on the F-series than the Tacoma. Can't blame the price of aluminum for the price increase on the Tacoma. If aluminum was that much of a factor in price people would stop drinking Coors Light.

 

There’s not one single input that results in all of the increased price. But there are a lot of inputs all with increased prices, in a market that’s more tolerant of high prices than ever, that result in higher prices.

but if you actually compare similarly equipped trucks, the new 4g is pretty much an inflation-adjusted 3g plus a few percent.

 

Lets not forget record profits in 2022

The question is why are new cars getting more expensive, right? I'm just pointing out that while inputs prices have been increasing (steel, aluminum, labor costs) corporate profits have either increased or remained the same. Toyota, and others, are just passing along all the costs because they can and to please their shareholders.

 

Absolutely. The market is tolerant of the higher prices. no reason not to raise prices if your customers will pay it

I say we blame the politicians. They obviously raise prices in a free market economy. Corporations always want to lower prices to help consumers. Duh!

I hate to say it, but toyotas number one job is results to the people who own the company.

 

Buddy that's every publicly traded company's number one job. I don't think it's societally optimal, but that's the way it is.

 

I got a message from Banshee bikes saying they are reducing their frame prices by 12% because their materials, manufacturing and shipping costs have all recently decreased. They make aluminum mountain bikes, no carbon, etc.

I’m sure it’s a way different scenario, but the bike industry has inventory piling up and some companies are folding. Turns out the market for overinflated $7k + mountain bikes is smaller than they thought, lol. Those same bike models were thousands less before Covid.

 

So did Toyota lower the price of a 2016? Since prices went down like crazy since 2012.

 

Not sure I would say priced went down like crazy. And why would they ever lower the price even if there was a reduction in cost. They may give incentive to buy but why would they lower the MSRP?
