That is something. But this is different AND confirmed by my own personal Certified Toyota mechanic. (For those who went on the color run a couple years back-Clay and his now wife who went with us in the blue FJ). Timing is just wrong and I am venting

If you’re considering a regear in addition to a disk conversion. I’d strongly consider finding an FZJ80 rear axle to swap in. You can find them for a few hundred bucks normally. Full float, disk brake, and 9.5” R&P that will hold up much better to second gen Tacoma weight.

Nice! Okay. That is the new plan. Sounds expensive but the new plan. 5.29s an option for those? Do the come with a locker or is that more up grade?

Project creep is real. I’m not a huge fan of 8” Toyota thirds behind 260hp and 6k+ lbs of truck but the majority here runs them without many issues until you start bouncing or getting heavy on the throttle.

9.5” 5.29’s are no problem via aftermarket gear manufacturers. E-lockers were available factory but obviously cost significantly more than an open axle. I run a 5.29 and a Spartan locker in mine. ARB has an air locker that can be swapped into an open axle with the regear as well if you wanted selectable.

I have already had issues with my little 8” out in Moab last year. I envision a SAS when the truck gets old enough but needs to be reliable in the mean time Good info. I will look into it. What’s money anyway…

Oh yeah I forgot you had issues out there!

Just let me know if you have any questions. As long as your gas tank is on the drivers side, it should be an easy swap.

Wisconsin folks: Apple Valley Off-road Park winter thing is happening February 17th. I think I am going as I am checking out Badgrrland 4x4 club and this is one of their outings. This place is rough and tumble with bypasses. Wasn’t going in the snow but since winter has flex I am thinking seriously about attending. Over near Chetec-ish. Anybody want to play?

I can't make it but curious to hear about that location if you go. Also curious to know more about Badgerland or the other local 4x4 clubs, seems like something we don't hear about much here which fascinates me.

I heard the semi-formal “Wisconsin Tacomas” group has a few interesting outings planned. It’s a bit of a process to gain membership though.

Maybe we should have made this the winter run. I've been so distracted that I haven't planned anything. We could still throw together a day trip easily, though

I heard that they make you drink Brandy old fashioneds and tell bs stories around a campfire.
