Hi all, I’m looking to buy a 1st gen tacoma and it’s got rust on the passenger side frame. Can someone tell me how bad this is, and if it’s worth patching up? Thanks!

IF that's the worst spot, it wouldn't be hard to patch. Where are you and most can tell what the norm is going to be for you in that area.

Look harder, biggest issues seen on here are the leaf spring mounting locations, they rot right out and make it a giant paper weight.

Look at things like spare tire carriers, body mounts. Not just broad sides of frames.

If you're worried, just walk away, too many horror stories.

    Welcome to the forum!!!

The mileage and where the truck has lived impacts things.

It depends on if one lives in the Northern Winter Chemical States or down South as to the answers you will get.

To me that truck is in much better shape then many ! It all comes down to your skill level if you can do the work or have good friends that work for consumables. Paying Labor rates to have things Done correct might get real expensive . This willing be an on going Thing to keep the frame intact.

It can be saved if the price is right and the rest of the Truck passes a up close and personal inspection and road test. What drive train? What other maintenance work will need done to bring it up to speed?

    Happy hunting!

Thanks all, this truck has been in New Brunswick for some time and if I do end up buying it, would be in Ontario. So lots of salt and snow on the roads in the winter. It’s a 2002 v6 4x4 with the TRD off road package and going on 232000 miles. Owner might consider letting it go for $4000 CAD. I’m willing to learn to patch things up but worried that it’s beyond salvageable.

At that price. If it was not in Canada !

If the up close inspection and road test passed to my specs.

It would be home with me.

At that mileage last timing Belt and Lower ball joints would be good to know .

That much rust everywhere...not worth dealing with. I'd pass on this one.
