I have a 21 sr5 without drl. I’m wanting to upgrade my headlight to a led drl. Is there a converter wire harness available for this hookup?

Yes, it’s pretty much has to be built. I know @Puppypunter makes them. Send him a pm and he will hook you up.

@Belv Depending on which headlights you go with, we should be able to make them work. The best option is going to be the OEM LEDs, but they are also the priciest at about $1400 for a set. If you wanted to drop in a set of the TRD style halogens to get the "L" shaped white LED DRL, we can do that too. Feel free to reach out when you're ready  Another option if you just want to get White DRLs as opposed to the ambers is getting a set of switchbacks. I like the VLED ones myself.... but looking to get you a link, it seems they may have changed some stuff? I would reach out to them and see what options they offer. Or if you wanted to go that route, I could get you everything you'd need for that too, made specific for the truck.

They have DRLs, it is just a shared bulb (and shared circuit unfortunately) with the turn signal.

    @Puppypunter

FYI, OP didn't say the brand of aftermarket led assembly. We don't know which headlights he bought for his truck. If he meant led headlights similar to the factory, then he should choose harness option when he orders online. (or the trim type)

If he bought XP headlights, then the harness is included in the package.

Agreed. Some aftermarket will work without an aftermarket harness (I know some Morimoto do, but beyond that I can't name another. I know they are out there, but too many for me to keep track of). But yeah, you are right that the OP didn't specify, that is why I recommend deciding on the headlights first for sure. I make harnesses for SR to TRD halogens, SR to OEM LED, and can do aftermarket harnesses too if I know what I am dealing with :)

Most cheap options for headlights don’t really make anything for the sr5 and lower trims. Pretty much oem replacements which would still require a harness if you want the led drl. If they do make them they don’t correctly work like they should since you have to split the signal. My understanding he wanted the led oems

I think those are wired just like factory trd halogens. He would have to build a harness for you.

I would keep the OE assemblies, or switch to OE assemblies only. Those are more than likely junk. Headlights are important, I wouldn’t skimp.

You can find a fairly cheap set of trd halogens on eBay that are used but in good condition. Maybe 200 bucks max.

Yeah, you will need to change to the TRD halogen type wiring. I see you have a 21, so if you can disable the DRL, I might have options for you.

Yeah, the DRL would still work. So the "normal" one I make retains full stalk control. Meaning if you turn the stalk to "off", the DRL will turn off. The only real differences between a TRD stock and this particular harness is if you use the hazards, the DRL will turn off. I kind of "steal" the DRL signal to drive the DRLs, so when the hazards are on, the lights blink, so there isn't a steady DRL signal to steal. That, and a second long delay when you turn on the DRL. But other than that, they will act like TRDs would.

The other option is one that uses a fuse tap to drive the DRL. By doing this, the DRL will be on when ever the truck is on. So if you set your stalk to off, the DRL will not turn off. It will behave like it should with every other setting though. So Auto, parking, and low beam (it dims with low beams, like they should). It's still plug and play, but does have the added fuse tap you need to crimp (or I can send a heat shrink/solder butt connector, but you'll still need to strip the wire). So an added step, but not a hard one.

The main difference in the two is the parts needed to pull it off. Option 1 takes 2 timers, 2 relays, and also needs resistors (all included). They go for $200.
Option 2 I think I am pricing at $100 (for now, this is subject to change depending on how much time they really take, I've only built a couple). They only take 1 relay, no timers, and no resistors (if you use the halogen turn signal bulbs).

I am happy to sell you either, but I will need to build a set either way. Also, I should note, both can be upgraded later if you decide to get a set of the OEM LEDs. You will need the harness that the TRD guys use (I recommend getting it from @daveeasa but I am biased). The OEM LEDs will have the same shortcomings (but you won't notice it with the hazards on since they are switchbacks).

Oh, one last thing I forgot: Option 1 will still dim with fog lights (even on the SR if they are installed in a manner that sends the signal to the ECU, basically meaning if the dash indicator lights up). Option 2 will not, as the truck really isn't controlling the DRL. It can be made to dim with the fogs, but I don't build them that way normally)

I plan on using led turn signal bulbs so I would need option one.

You can still use LED bulbs with option 2, but you will need to source resistors depending on which bulb. Some LED bulbs have resistors built in. But if not, resistors can easily be added to option 2. Shoot me a PM when you are ready to buy the harness :)

Puppypunter and Daveeasa know their stuff ! I’m using an SR5 to oem led headlight harness and it works perfectly . I figured if I was messing with headlights, I’d save some hassle with quality issues by going with an Oem set up

Do you offer the harness to install oem trd halogens (the ones with the little "L") for non- DRL sr5 tacomas?. I have aftermarket light and would like to purchase oem "L" type halogens.
