I've been installing mine this weekend, and I have the Axxess SWC with 3.5mm adapter. I've seen some on TW say to cut that plug off and splice Key1 and Key2 on the AuCar harness to that. Before I go splicing, is that correct? The Axxess SWC also has a bunch of colored wires unused.

you can unplug the adapter. The new radio will have a plug to connect to the factory harness. no need for the Axxess anymore, its built into the radio.

Thanks @arcenik ! These 3 wires in this guy's YouTube vid are exactly what was left hanging from my truck's harness in this video
    https://youtu.be/rSNIS360jUk?si=qXZkOfxfJAgllit6&t=278
However, I did NOT have a black ground wire available coming off the headunit, only Key1 and Key2. I grounded that Red/White wire coming out of my truck to the truck, maybe that's why my SWC aren't working? Maybe that Red/White needs to be grounded to the Headunit instead?

Unfortunately, this is what happens when someone cuts up the harness. With these units you don't need to splice wires, they should be in the oem harness and you just plug the new harness in and it works. If your wires are hanging you should try to reconnect them to the original harness, or you can try and figure out the wiring. Depending on the year you should have key1, key2, the 2012+ have key3 and ground.

It gets tricky with the 2012+ because most radio's only come with a key1 and key2 input. The canbus has a key3 input but I don't think they are marked, so it may take some tracing to figure out.

Best bet is to try and reconnect them. I have a few spare harness, let me know if you need help and I can pull it out and try and figure out the wire colors.

I wired the Axxess SWC back in 2011 when I removed the stock unit and I remember it had funky instructions. For whatever reason, I tapped into 12V power down by the driver fuse box and ran it into the stereo area to provide power to it, then they had me cut those 3 wires from the factory harness. I've had a couple Jensen HUs I installed myself since. Glad to finally remove that messy harness, I manually spliced them all. I'm going to try running the Red/White currently grounded to the truck and ground it on the back of the headunit and see what that does.

If you are running them straight to the key1 and key 2 on the back of the unit the buttons might not work until programmed. There is an app called steering wheel. You can go there and test to see if they work. You might have the wiring right and they just need to be programmed.

Normally they will be connected to the can bus which is pre programmed and they work once they are connected.

That's an interesting video. I was wondering what the heck key 1 and key 2 were on my headunit. I just left them alone and didn't splice them with anything and my steering wheel controls work. I also didn't ground the unit... hopefully you don't have to ground the unit.

Does anyone know how to change the boot up image on the headunit by chance?

Has the software improved on these? I'm curious about the new Android 11 model with more RAM, Qualcomm instead of mediatek CPU, and the higher res screen. Sounds great.

My Pioneer 7-inch is starting to fail (again) so trying to decide how to proceed. Get a Kenwood/Alpine, or give this Aucar a try.

    Anyone have the latest Aucar?

You can change the boot image. I forget what I did but I will try and remember. I used the attached image for mine.

anyone else have the issue where the temperature controls are switched? That is to say the heat setting is actually the ac and blows cold and the cold setting blows hot. It didn't do this before on my 08 taco. I'm not sure if I'm the only one having this issue with the headunit or not. At first I thought it was due the the aucur Celsius/Fahrenheit setting never being accurate. At first it would read 2 degrees Cel and now it reads just constantly reads -51F no matter what. Mostly likely unrelated and not a huge deal but if there is a fix that would be good.

I see the similar Phoenix Brand for 05-15 Tacomas updated to Android 12 with options for 8GB RAM and 128 or 256 GB of memory. Do you know if AUCAR will be updating to Android 12 anytime soon?

I love mine (Android11 8GB RAM 128GB ROM). After I installed the Nov 14, 2023 firmware update, everything works and bootup is super fast, faster than my 2017 Ford Explorer Sport's factory head unit! I also have -51F always showing (not sure if there is a fix) and haven't figured out the steering wheel controls, but I will sooner or later. I ran the 2 USB cables into the plastic removable clip below the passenger air vent (this pic is prior to firmware update, hence the Chinese). Highly recommend this unit.

I had that -51F issue too. I think you have to make a setting change on the Weather app or it was an Android setting. Can't recall which one did the trick.

As for getting SWC to work, im not sure yet... I'm on my 2nd attempt to get them to work. Along with my aftermarket front and rear cams.
