    Everyone pays taxes everywhere. Its just collected in different methods.

    Fl has property (real estate) and sales as the mainstay. We do have a 'save our homes' cap on primary residences, which is great for long term owners.

    No inspections, no income tax

    Annual vehicle registration / plate renewal is $50-ish for a std plate, more for vanity of course.

    So, Californians, how much is the ticket for getting pulled over for expired tags? Is that also a $500ish ticket to incentivize you to renew the registration on your vehicle?

    Many years ago, when I lived in California, I paid over $1000 for my 1995 SR5 4x4. Pennsylvania is exponentially more reasonable at around $85 a year for my 2020 TRD Sport.

    Bought the truck in April of last year so registration will be coming up for us soon. I'm expecting $560. AZ does registration as a percentage of the vehicle's value. I miss the good ol days when Texas was charging like $86 for plates. I'm sure they have gone up in the last 10 or 15 years that I've been gone.

    Does it go by value or by age? I haven’t lived in AZ in 2 years, but my FJ60 is still registered there. I got in on the 5 year tag when they were updating their MVD system. I think it was a glitch. Anyways, my most valuable car is the 60, and it’s the cheapest. 5 years cost me like $220.

    They have some sort of algorithm which takes the value down by roughly $50 per year.
    If you do multiple years in advance you get something like a 10% discount on the second year - something like that. I've never heard of anything longer than a 2 year registration. Would be super nice though. I'd like to register it for 5 years when you buy the vehicle and then never have to think about it until it hit's that 5 year mark. I think 5 years is when we hit the need for a SMOG / Emissions test too. That's about $35 and it's just a money grab for the state to stick their nose into your business and scan your OBDII port.

    Here in New Hampshire we don't pay many taxes, but one exception is vehicle registration; they look up the base price for your model (fortunately without any options added) and then ding you accordingly. Once the vehicle reaches three years old the prices start to decline to a more reasonable level. My previous car had about the same MSRP as my Tacoma and it cost me $165 per year, my Tacoma is $750. :)

    If I had to pay full price, it would have been $156 for 2 years. As a partially disabled vet it cost me $16.
    Another plus, it took less than 30 minutes at the tag agency for me to get registered, request a new title and my wife to get her real ID.

    $60 sounds cheap, but I don't know what your rates are in the southeast corner, but in Fairfax in the northern part of the state they charge you .0457 per dollar of assessed value on top of your registration fee. On a $50k vehicle, that is over $2k every year on top of your registration fee. When I left that miserable state I was paying about $1500 a year for vehicle registration. Much cheaper in Florida. Vehicle registration fee in Florida is $22.50 annually.

    Ours depends on age and MSRP of vehicle. The newer it is, the more expensive the registration, and the more expensive the vehicle the more expensive the registration.

    For MN:

    (2) for a vehicle initially registered in Minnesota on or after November 16, 2020, 1.575 percent of the manufacturer's suggested retail price of the vehicle, subject to the adjustments in paragraphs (e) and (f).

    (e) The amount under paragraph (a), clauses (1) and (2), must be calculated based on a percentage of the manufacturer's suggested retail price, as follows:

    (1) during the first year of vehicle life, upon 100 percent of the price;

    (2) for the second year, 95 percent of the price;

    (3) for the third year, 90 percent of the price;

    (4) for the fourth year, 80 percent of the price;

    (5) for the fifth year, 70 percent of the price;

    (6) for the sixth year, 60 percent of the price;

    (7) for the seventh year, 50 percent of the price;

    (8) for the eighth year, 40 percent of the price;

    (9) for the ninth year, 25 percent of the price; and

    (10) for the tenth year, ten percent of the price.

    (f) For the 11th and each succeeding year, the amount under paragraph (a), clauses (1) and (2), must be calculated as $20.
