Im curious to hear more about anyone's experience with dealerships for the frame recall on 2nd gens. Has anyone got denied a frame replacement from the recall, that may have needed it, due to FRAME ALTERATIONS/AFTERMARKET PARTS? For just a woolwax/fluidfilm coating? I have had a dealer take a look at my vehicle and denied the service due to the "protective coating". If anyone has supporting information or help TIA

Try another stealership or contact Toyota.
I don't see how they can fault you for making an attempt to save your frame from rusting to pieces.
My frame had fluid film on it when it was replaced.

Don’t seem right, I’ve seen dealers drill holes to get them to fail.

unless you’re pouring caustic wax on it, it should not matter

Im past my DOFU as of now, but when I called corporate and complained about my inspection (dealership that did inspection was very tough to work/communicate with) they told me to go back to the dealership to talk to the service manager. I think that the service manager lied/stepped over the line about woolwax being a reason to deny my replacement. I have a hole in my crossmember that is way larger than the 11mm requirement.

    Yeah.
Were you past your DOFU when the initial inspection occurred?

I had my 2014 inspected by a dealer in November of '21 to secure the frame warranty extension. Shortly after that, I primed, painted and applied Fluid-Film everywhere and I touch it up in the spring and fall. It has been re-inspected by the same dealer since then in '22 and '23 as per their recommendation. They just do it each year when it's time, when I'm there for an oil & filter change.

Never a mention or comment by them about any of this, including the obvious coating of Fluid-Film on the frame and the hitch.

They do not re-apply the CRC, however on my truck anyway, it's in decent shape and hasn't degraded or migrated in the treated areas that are visible. I don't
Fluid-Film the laminated areas where they applied the CRC. (Don't want to give them any excuse to deny a warranty replacement.) If I still have the truck when the warranty is over, (2026) I will start treating that area if needed.

No, I completed both inspections I got within the deadline according to my DOFU. The first inspection in ‘18 or ‘19 they only gave me the CRC application.

In the fall of 2022 I had a TW member apply Woolwax for me, like I usually have. He was the one who noticed the significant hole through one of my crossmembers when underneath. I still had him woolwax the frame which in retrospect probably wasn’t the best idea.

So after this, I went for another inspection in Oct ‘22 (my deadline was Nov 2022), this time for the frame replacement. The service manager told me when he brought the truck back out that because of the aftermarket protective coating, they would not provide the frame replacement.

I complained and the last I heard from that manager, he was going to let me know when the Toyota regional frame rep/inspector would be at the dealership, and would have him take a look in person rather through the pictures/inspection report. He never got back to me, and I was in the middle of graduating from college, travelling, and starting my job so I didnt have time to be chasing him down (it was already a PIA to get updates to this point).

Its only been the last week or two that I started thinking of selling it due to the frame. So I gave one more call to Toyota corporate, and it seems from what the lady told me that I still have a chance to get the recall done, it seemed like the lady from corporate was confused because there wasnt a determination on the inspection, see the pic attached.

Corporate told me to go talk to the service manager on Monday, so that is what ill do. I wanted to get some info from others who may have had this issue so I have some better points to include when arguing my case.

The dealer I bought it from actually warned me that the initial inspection for the frame warranty had not be done yet and reminded me each time I was there. They also provided me with a loaner for that initial inspection and treatment. Hope this helps.

    Yeah.
This just sounds like a stall tactic and that they don't want to do the work. Warranty work like this doesn't pay as well as the regular customer rip-off work. Or, they've never had to deal with one and are concerned that corporate won't cover them. I agree with Corporate -- they didn't really document any decision, they're just deferring to a Toyota field representative so they are covered. Let us know what you find out.

Before leaving the dealership that day....you should have insisted that they document the hole and its size AND refusal to address it. That would have been your smoking gun.

Take a good picture of the hole with something for comparison next to it to give it scale, like a 10mm socket in the picture next to it.
