    back to bone stock.
price feels high (for me). i personally would diminish the value mentally because it does have that lift. same condition truck, bone stock the price is acceptable. again, for me.

We will debate all day and then some if you're overpaying or not. Fact is that there isn't a comparable truck near you that looks to be in that condition for that value. It reads to me like you're going to be happy as can be when you hand over the cash. I'd have it looked over and assuming that checks out go for it and celebrate.

Not sure what your financial situation is, but knowing how much you got from insurance makes me think that if I was in your situation I'd try to pony up some more $$ and buy something newer / lower mileage. Basically something you feel you'd be keeping longer. I think if you could put another $3-5k on top of your insurance check you'd be opening up a lot of options.

Not saying these are ideal, but here's a sampling of what I'm getting at. Personally, I'd rather spend some of my money on top of insurance and end up with an upgrade over my old truck rather than pocket a few grand to end up with a worse truck.

I can’t. I am 25 and just graduated college last fall and have just begun my career so I’m eating ramen to put it lightly. The truck being totaled was already a massive burden financially for me. I explored the option of dipping into what I have saved, but I am 100% on my own with no support so my bills unfortunately don’t warrant reaching above my means at the moment. That’s why I am HUNTING for something that is clean and has the maintenance to boot so that I can drive it into the ground (responsibly while maintaining it) over the next 5 years as I launch my career into its latter stages. Right now I just feel it would be irresponsible for my situation.

Glad to see you're being smart about this. Personally, I'd keep looking if I could wait. Otherwise, I'd see if you could make a deal with that guy, spend a little of the extra $$ to fix up any issues then stick the rest into an automotive emergency fund so you'll have some cash laying around for maintenance and repairs. I've never had a car payment but I always put some money into a "car" fund every month, kinda like paying a car payment, then I always have money for repairs and maintenance. Or, if that doesn't get eaten up, it can be used as down payment for our next vehicle.

    Nice looking truck.

If I were you? I'd take the insurance settlement and put it down on a new truck.

Not that this one is alone in being overpriced. The used vehicle market is all overpriced right now.

Actually I was you not long ago. The my youngest kid totaled his WRX. Got 10K for the total for a car we only paid 6 for and drove it 6 years (because used cars are insanely overpriced right now). Took that cash to the dealer and bought a new Subie for the wife. Stuck the kid with her 9 year old outback. Kid moved to NYC and left the outback....so we sold it for $20K (because used cars are insanely overpriced right now) and pocketed it all. Essentially traded a 20 year old WRX and a 10 year old Outback for a brand new 0 mile Crosstrek.

That’s some parent-level advice that I definitely missed out on. Thanks for that, that’s a great idea. I tried to work him down lower but 13.5 is his number that he’ll honor, considering he’s getting offers closer to his list at 15 (I’ve seen the quotes, not blowing smoke) but I stuck a deposit down so he’ll hold it until I see it tomorrow.

Smart! Live within your means. Aside from high mileage, the truck looks like a winner. It sounds like your mind is already made up. Talk to the guy a little more and tell him about your situation, and you may be able to get him to come down a few hundred more.

    Yeah.
Not a great price, but not unreasonable either. In my area that price would only be slightly high, and this isn't a high-demand area for Tacomas. That truck looks really clean, and if your mechanic says it checks out, it seems like a reasonable choice to me.

It's a decent buy with the all the service records, just make sure you check the frame CLOSELY even though it's been coated, doesn't mean rust wasn't covered up by the coating, also check for any codes stored in the computer.

Yeah I don’t have an obd but I was gonna test drive it right on over to autozone to see if it’s throwing any codes. I’m also bringing a hammer, and meeting the guy in broad daylight so I can take a look pretty thoroughly.

Driving home in her right now. I don’t think I could be happier. Coming from my last Tacoma, this thing leaves her in the dust. Tapped the frame up and down without even a flake of rust coming off, doors and seals and engine bay and everything clean, no cosmetic issues, service records in my hands. The truck drives better than my last Tacoma that had 60k less miles. I honestly found a gem, my mechanic didn’t have a single cross word for it. He actually told me if I didn’t buy it that he would lol. I couldn’t work him down on price anymore than I did but truthfully, I didn’t mind paying what I did for the condition of this truck.

I really appreciate that, that’s kind. Thanks so much for the help from all of y’all. It really gave me a lot to delve on before a purchase this big for myself. If any of you guys are ever down in the space coast region of Florida, let me know and I’ll happily get you on the skiff and put some fish in your hands :)
