Hello beautiful community, so my driver side leaf spring broke off from the shacks mount area when I hit a pothole yesterday, I talked to Toyota dealer and they quoted me $801 for that leaf spring alone with labor it will be $1000+. I talked to my insurance and made a claim and they will cover but I have to pay 500$ deductible. Should I give this the green light? And will my insurance cover for the second leaf spring since the dealer recommended me to change both?! 2007 Tacoma 2.7L 2wd 5 lugger.

I doubt your insurance will pay for the not broken leaf spring. I do agree to replace them as a pair. If you are or have a capability friend I would take this as a chance to upgrade your leaf springs.

Can’t find any for the 5 lug 2nd gen Tacoma, unless a 6 lug 2nd gen leaf will fit my 5 lug

Not sure why you went to the dealer for a repair on a 17 year-old truck, then be scared by high part prices. It's technology from the 1900s. Most shops can handle it. Either replace them yourself or go to an indie shop. Aftermarket leaf choices for 5-lugger are limited, but Rock Auto has them, ~$500 for the whole set before shipping:

    Right: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4668972&cc=1431546&pt=7544

Being 17 years old, most likely the U-bolts will be rusted and need to be torched off, so you'll need replacement U-bolts too. Depending on how rusted your truck is, there may be other casualties, like shackle bolts and shackles.

Depends on the insurance but if you do and they send a inspector to see the truck they will know its not damaged.

@Nazareth7 please try to make thread titles that are related to the question instead of "need help".

If you decide to go through insurance, they'll typically either require you to get an estimate from another shop or send an adjuster over to make an estimate (i.e. your own assessment doesn't count because you aren't a repair professional). If the second opinion also says both springs need to be replaced, then it gets added to the total claim.
