Payload/GVWR Thread

Yeah, things are confusing with these. The owners manual says different numbers, but also says to check the placard. I wonder if location matters, rear vs front Axel?

 

The base 4wd SR is $38k. The base AWD 4runner is $44k. You get less HP, torque, fuel efficiency, and no bed. I (and no one else really) can comment on off road ability yet.

As for price, we live in a world where inflation exists. 10 years ago that 38k was 29k. It sucks but, thats life. A 2013 v6 4wd access cab was $26k new, thats a ~10% increase in price after inflation adjustment. For that 10% you get more than a 10% increase in every aspect of the truck, towing, hauling, and MPG (I think, I didn't actually do the math so correct me if I'm wrong). If you don't like the look of the truck thats one thing, it's your opinion and I can't argue that. But based on the facts, I just don't get the hate.

I don't understand the hate on the 4g from people that want it to be a worse truck. If you want to beat something up by a used truck or beat up a 4g. I'm sure it can take a beating just like any other truck.

Not really, but ALOT more price.. 2013 v6 Tacoma: ~19 - 23mpg, towing 6500lbs, payload 1465lbs. But, ya get fancy electronics where muh phone can connect to muh car and plays muh music -whoppty friggin do. However, that is what the majority of buyer wants, just not me. But Toyota doesn't give a flying eff about me.

I wonder if it is because of our market . . . I wonder similar things,

my 4runner specs at 4400lb (2wd), gvwr 6100 (black vin sticker), payload 1200 (white sticker, 7 occupants). I doubt the 2nd row slider racks and two jumpseats /belts from the 3row option add 500

a waxed body feels great

 

The sticker on my 2015 off road is 1050 lbs payload

A 2wd fourth gen also has a reasonably high payload. And gets 26mpg highway.

The 4wd 2013 is nowhere near 1465lbs payload

 

An SR 4x4 DCSB 6MT is model code TZNA45L-PRFSZA. Door placard says payload 1200 lbs, GVWR 5865 lbs, GAWR FRT 3320 lbs, RR 3095 lbs.

 

Those numbers are pathetic


And more than a comparable 3g

 

I can't speak from experience, but my 2016 SR 4x2 2.7l had 1400 lbs payload. I'm sure if it was 4x4 it would have been a bit less than that.

 

My 07 4X4 DC TRD has 1200 lbs payload. And from what I'm seeing that is 100-200 lbs more than a comparable 3rd gen. I've seen some payloads listed as low as 900 lbs. On paper at least a base model 5 lug 2wd with the 4 cyl will actually have 1700+ lbs payload. The GVWR is the same, but the heavier the truck is, the less payload.

Real world payload on a new 4X4 crew cab Ranger is 1500 lbs. They show 1700 on the charts, but the trucks I've seen are right at 1500. Even Honda Ridgeline is over 1500 lbs. My Honda Fit was 800, that's only 100 lbs less than some Tacoma's

I'm going to be in a place where I'm going to need a new or newer truck in about a year. I was hoping Toyota would address this with the 4th gens, but apparently not. I don't need to tow heavy, but I need more than 1200 lbs payload. And a larger than 21 gallon fuel tank really helps when getting 10 mpg towing. If I understand correctly the 4th gens have a 17 gallon fuel tank.

 

yeah I hate to break it to you but the Tundra is the only one that checks all those boxes right now, and could even come out cheaper than some of the Tacoma trims..

Wonder what aftermarket suspension parts can do to bump payload higher on the 4th gen’s by a few hundred lbs?

Been looking at a lot of full sizes lately, including the tundra, a LOT of them have stickers that say 1300 -1350, in the most popular limited with crew and 4x4, just awful

 

I was gonna say #1500 payload sounds more like a Ford Ranger than a Tundra.

 

Likely 2wd SR Xtracab non-hybrid. Lowest curb weight = highest payload.

My dad was once towed for being over GVRW in his 70s F-150 with a heavy duty bed. It was such heavy bed that even with no load it, the truck was still over weight.

My 2nd gen Frontier is pretty much maxed out when I use it for work. Job box is 780lbs, plus me at 180lbs and a colleague who's 230lbs. There's still plenty of empty space in the bed and cab.

 

yeah, i am only seeing close to 1500 on the double cab tundra models, which the back seat is i think smaller than my dcsb tacoma. The vast majority of tundras out there with crew cab are right around 1300. Colorado and canyons are all around 1500 lbs

 

I’m disappointed that The XtraCab trucks don’t get a higher payload.
