New Taco and some mod ideas

Recently picked up a 21 TRD Pro and, while I don't plan to do very much to this truck, I have found a few things I think I want and if anyone has any they want to get rid of, I may be your guy. Any thoughts on any of these or others I should seriously consider?

- Factory tailgate lock wiring - DONE
- Diamondback SE cover (might change my mind on this, but this seems like the one I would like best) - DONE
- Diode dynamics Hitch Mount light (easy, I like having extra backup lights) - DONE
- Lockable interior storage (console and/or under rear seat). Got a console vault, see page 2 - DONE
- Bed stiffeners (Total Chaos?) - DONE
- Will a good tune like OTT make the tranny feel better and not hurt fuel mileage? My freaking Jeep feels faster than this thing.

Lesser priority:
- Different rocker guards (don't like the way the factory ones hang down)
- 2nd set of wheels - really think I want the gloss gunmetal 4Runner 17s (for a second set of tires - ATs and Mts)
- Everybody kept saying do the RAV4 radio knobs and I didn't like the factory ones so I ended up ordering a set - much better (note that it appears they are discontinued, so better get after it if you want to try them) - DONE

I don't have a good pic of it really, but here it is with a couple buddies. I traded in a black FRS, so there is a color I like in my cars...

Bed mat after the diamondback maybe. Or molle panels.

Good to know on the OTT. I babied a tank and got a truck measured 17.1 that matched calculated. Will drive more normal and see what happens.

if you're going to do your own oil changes then: filter wrench with drain tube, metal filter housing, maybe Fumoto valve

I will do my own changes. Have the wrench from wife’s Camry and have the metal housing ordered. I had a Fumoto valve on the FRS. Always made me nervous but never had an issue. Probably not for an off roader. Have factory bed lights.

What's up with the RAV4 radio knobs? I have the JBL premium system.

Rav 4 knobs. Some Tacos have small volume and tune knobs for the radio. Some have replaced them with Rav4 knobs which are larger and easier to use. If you're interested you can search on this site.

I searched the RAV4 knobs. Not a priority, but that does look like a cheap mod that most like.

 

Found a Diamondback SE on Facebook Marketplace. Tried to contact a member here about one but never heard back. Headed to get it Saturday. I think I will be very happy with that for the security and weatherproofness. Don't need my full bed often and have a trailer. May do molle panels or something inside to build organization off of (shovel, Rotopax, storage bins, etc). Any advice for that?

Going to also get the rail for the front of the bed, as my 21 doesn't have it. I don't have any of the factory tie downs for these, what kind does everyone recommend for a decent price?

 

Bed light, bed matt, rain guards, bug deflector, roof rack.

 

I use my lockable ESP under seat box all the time. Great upgrade and quick install.

 

Got my Diamondback! I'll try to get a good pic tomorrow. Think I am gonna love this thing. If I need the whole bed, it's not that hard to remove.

 

Hey Bart. I got my TRD Sport in October and have done some of the same mods you mentioned:

• Factory tailgate lock wiring - Love it, couldn't go without it.
• Diamondback cover - I really wanted the Diamondback, but didn't want to not be able to open it when I had kayaks or bikes on top of it. I ended up going with the RetraxPro XR because it can open underneath the bed bars (that I don't have yet).
• Diode dynamics Hitch Mount light - I really like this one, the backup light is impressive.

Another one I would recommend is the bed lighting, especially if you're putting any kind of cover on the bed. I also really like my hood struts and oversized cup holder.

Hi new here. Have a 2022 TRD Sport. Where did you get the Factory Tailgate Lock Wiring and Hood Struts?
