Try Waze then ;) it does all that and the map gets more updates than a SD card

A RAM mount (or other) over your center dash is a cheap mod to hold your phone!

That thing would have gotten a work out in Peru with me in December. 18k plus in elevation. Different from altitude but still would have been cool. Nice job.

I've been looking at getting a used mag compass from a plane and mount it somewhere up top of the windshield or over the driver gauges and fill out a deviation card with electronics on
For now I've just been running Gaia GPS and using the compass on the top of the app

Neat altimeter though! Higher density altitudes = worse engine performance! :turtleride:

Ooh. They had foam wheels for indoor, and rubber for outdoor. But they both would get stuck in sleeping family members hair.

Thanks. Sounds like a cool idea to me. My wife would definitely roll here eyes on that one though.

This just sits there in an 'empty' spot and automatically turns on when the truck is running. It's great if I just need a quick look.
I paid $49 at a local retailer about 8-9 tears ago, and it has lifetime maps.
But I agree, I use google maps when I need directions. Much easier.

I use a nautical one. Mounted on the dash. Have lights running to it. Would have liked an "above mounted aircraft one" better, but would be hard-pressed to find a good spot.

Be warned that they are not an easy item to swing (calibrate).
A lot more ferrous metals in the truck than in aircraft. And the wire looms are prolly not as well insulated. I can get 10* change just by turning on some accessories/lights/radio.
Still I prefer it over the embedded mirror compass (which I don't have) because I get a better overall awareness at a quick glance. Besides, my dad gave me this one and he is gone now, so....

(Looking for photo. Will edit if I fine one.)

So I have a course motorsports phone mount. Love it, but it oscillates on the highway. Drove me nuts……made a “damper” to fix it, works well. I used a small bit of 5/16” fuel line

My ship one. (Someday, maybe, I'll have an aircraft one.)

Waze is not always on when the truck is running. This is. Like I said, it's nice when I just need a quick look.
