Ok, so I have to vent this issue about taking my 2016 Tacoma with 17,897 miles to get an oil/filter change. I pretty much baby my truck (mall crawler) and know every inch of her . I waited 2 hours at the dealer and was called over by my service advisor. He told me the truck was done with service and all things checked out great. He then went into an explanation of a porter driving my truck into a wall (turned to sharp and ran the left rear door into the corner of the service shop wall. My bolted on rock sliders saved what could have been much worse damage. I was then told they would fix it completely on their dime (no crap!). I was given a song and dance and they lent me a loaner taco. I went to pick my truck up today after they said it was completed. I was walked over to my truck and could see drips, pimples and a clear dent/waive where the damage originally occurred. The customer relations manager kept saying that they could not see any flaws. I pulled out my phone, Googled black line over white screen. I angled my phone to reflect on the door "repairs" and you could see all the imperfections. They just looked at each other and said to bring the truck back in a week when the paint fully cures. How does curing and dents have anything to do with each other? I'm wondering if anyone out there has encountered a similar problem or has any advice. One last thing the care manager told me that really irritated me was, she said...."well no fix is ever perfect". Talk about biting my tongue and not strangling someone. Sorry for the long message. Maybe a good read. Thanks guys/gals.

Well, I never thought I'd hear myself say it's a good thing you brought it to a dealership. But, in this case, it's good. They have deep pockets a reputation over if you just brought it to a mom and pop shop for an oil change, and can stand behind mistakes. You will have to be persistent and not accept half ass answers of no repair is perfect. It will be a pain to deal with though.

I would have asked what the plan was in a week when the painted cured?
If it’s still messed up? Then what?

I mean, I’m not too picky myself. So depending on the severity of the flaw, I’d just add it to my list of life’s little disappointments. But that’s me. Everyone is different. Do what you think needs to be done.

I would take it to another body shop of your choice and file a claim with your insurance.

My OCD is at a all time high with this one. I like looking at my truck when parked somewhere and seeing a glass like sheen.....no dents or wrinkles. I bought it for a sentimental reason and now I feel like what do I do now? Let it be and just look at it from one side only? No thank you....it would be different if I was an offroad menace and had previous damage...but truck went into the dealer with no damage and I shouldn't be expected to be ok with mediocre work.

They're going to say a bunch of nonsense to have you second guessing if it's worth the hassle. You're not there to make friends. You have your line in the sand and they will try and move it. I feel for you just for the time and effort it will take. An oil change is going to turn into a months long ordeal, and that's not right.

Email them today and tell them the repair is not acceptable and you’ll be filing a claim with your insurance. Take it to a different dealer for the repairs.

I wouldn’t even be nice about it, that time has passed. You gave them a chance and they failed. What reason do you have to believe next week will be different?

I agree, name them and shame them

I wouldn’t file a claim , no way . I would tell them the repair is un acceptable and I am taking it to my own body shop and they will need to take care of the bill. That would be my hard line in the sand . I wouldn’t care what they said or thought. They damaged it . Then you they need to fix it to your satisfaction . Period

Tell them you want everything regarding the incident and their claims that it is repaired in writing. Then contact corporate.

Oh the old cave and pave! Must of had a high spot in the door.

What they should of done was find a new or straight used door to replace their F#@& up! The slider was the easiest part of the fix. But to have runs and still be able to see the repairs...NO WAY!

PULL IT! Take it to the most expensive body shop in town and have an estimated done. Then take the estimate back to them. Tell them have 2 days decide if they will pay it, or they can fight it out with your insurance!

They may not be able to make it the way that it was. Unfortunate but I get that.
If that's the case, the value of your truck has forever been diminished. They owe you the difference. What is the accelerated depreciation? Might just be a couple hundred bucks, might be a thousand.

Nope. Those body panels are still made today. They can 100% make it the way it was.

Email repair estimate as a heads up to their bill.

Get 100% of everything from here on out in writing, photos, times, dates, data.

No talking in words, they’ll just lie.

Could be time based rather than mileage.

I don't daily the truck anymore. I still change the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage. Otherwise, if I waited for mileage intervals the oil would never get changed.
