My question what kind of Body Shop reputation does that dealer have some dealers I know do not touch bodywork not even having a spray booth.

Name them let them become internet famous !!

It's always up to you who fixes your vehicle when it gets damaged. Not piling on OP because a lot of people would've been taken advantage of here. It's in their best interest to handle it in house because it saves them money. The right thing to do is to NOT let them fix it. Take it where you want it done, have them fix it. Insist upon the dealer using their insurance or providing a guarantee of payment in writing. If they won't do either of those things, file with your insurance company and let them handle it.

They likely will not get involved now, since the repairs were already completed. Correcting someone else's bad work is not an insurance claim.

Also, someone else made a point about dealers and body shops. I've mentioned this in other threads as well. The profit centers in the back of the house are service and parts. Labor rates are higher, turnaround times are faster, and there are fewer "subjective" service items as it relates to quality when compared with body/paint. Lots of dealers don't want the hassles, don't want to tie up valuable space with work that makes less money, so they don't have a body shop. The dealers that do have a body shop treat it as a necessary evil, the red headed stepchild of the dealership. Very few dealer body shops are what I would consider "good" shops. The vast majority of them fall in the B- to D+ range, quality-wise.

    Yeah.
Well, not sure if you signed anything or got the "come back after the paint cures" in writing. But do not accept the repair in writing in any way. Take it back, tell them you do not accept it and to fix it properly. They don't get to say whether the repair is reasonable.

"Come back in a week when the paint cures" is utter bullshit. These guys are scum. I'm sorry OP got sucked into this. The dealership in this scenario counts on people not knowing what their rights are.

This sounds like such a drag, going in for some regular maintenance and then ending up with this situation. Accidents do happen and that’s just part of life but they need to make it right and make you happy with the repairs, if they can’t repair to your liking then I would think they need to cover the costs of you taking it to a shop that can do the job correctly. I’m a picky person with things as well but some aren’t, I think they were just hoping you weren’t one of the pickier ones. Good luck with things

If you have pictures of the previous damage take then and your now repaired truck to a reputable body shop. Show them the pictures and repair done. If they say it's a poor job get a quote for a proper repair and take it back to the dealership. Show them the quote and explain you need them to pay for the repairs at the shop of your choosing.

Sounds like their "paint guy" didn't shake the can hard enough.

Seriously OP, you're going to have to be a bit assertive on this. I'd take pictures first thing. Then, I'd reach out to the principal of the dealership directly. You're unlikely to get him, but you'll likely get their executive assistant. They have a lot of power in most dealerships and no one below them wants to get a "Can you come up to my office?) message from them.

Be clear in what the problem is and what solution you want. In this case I would want them to agree to let me take the truck to an auto body shop of my choice and pay to have the repair redone properly. Set the anchor in the negotiation and hold fast. They have insurance for this and it sounds like they are trying to avoid filing a claim and cheap out on a repair hoping your an idiot.

If they refuse to agree to whatever course of action you want, you might have to talk to a lawyer. As others have pointed out, your insurance company isn't going to do anything about it.

Damage, you can see how far they drove the truck along the wall until they stopped.

It's hard to show the drips unless I go in the shade but you can see a indentation and the house the reflection is blurred. It's easier to see in person.

I'd suggest a better picture of the drips and whatever else you're unhappy with. I don't have the greatest eyes, but I can't see anything amiss with that. Did they fix the scratch on the door handle?

Dang, that sucks! All that time and effort keeping it nice and then something like this. I know it happens, but it still sucks. Good luck!

I was expecting something much worse from the original post. Was the door dented? Probably could have buffed/polished a lot of that out without repainting.

I can't see any drips in the paint from the pictures, but I'll take your word for it. Getting the color to match is most of the work. I wonder if another shop could buff down the paint drips that you mention without respraying?

Body shop repairs are never 100% back to what it was originally. If you can get 90% of what it was you should take it and live with it.

Being a picky person I see what OP is talking about, I think most people would be happy with the repair though I personally wouldn’t either. This truck has really been taken care and with the low mileage deserves to have a better repair then what’s pictured

The door was creased in....because of the cinderblock corner they hit. In the pic it's hard to see but if I showed the vid which the pic is a screensot of....you can see the apparent waive and crease still. I think they did some half fast PDR, buffed out what they could and they said they replaced the door handle. It was scraped down to the inner plastic and when I went to pull on it to open the door....it wobbled.

Maybe they only painted the door handle then? Sounds like something wasn't assembled correctly with the door handle. Your best bet is to find another body shop.

A skilled PDR worker could likely take care of the door crease without repainting. If you really want the door resprayed have another shop do it, but paint color and texture will never match 100% and they'll likely have to blend it into the other door panel.

If you look in the reflection, the black car by the house is split in half.....it's where the crease is still in the door. It's not just about being picky...it's about being right and having an undamaged truck back. Earlier question, I only drive my truck to go to my cabin in Big Bear.....I'm down in Hacienda Heights, CA. I just do oil changes every 6 months. I truly regret it this time.
