Needs and components surely will dictate that for sure!

My case above sucks for air flow (accidentally chose it and didn't realize it until months later)

But still manages good temps, I don't OC my stuff though so maybe that helps :notsure:

If I sell a few dinos I might say screw it and get an ITX case and mobo :anonymous:

If ya get one, definitely share your thoughts on the cable management and air flow

I’d been working on a 2013 Mac Pro with 128gb of ram running Win 7 as a VM via Parallels. It worked great for me but the product won’t be compatible with Win 7 come August so figured I’d go ahead and splurge since it’s a partial write off. I’m keen to see the case - arrives this weekend-ish - as from what I’ve seen so far is that their build quality is higher. I’ll report in once I get it.

Amazing product that continues to impress me with every step we take forward. Another division puts out entertainment titles based off the same engine that I highly recommend for those so inclined.

Yeah I am looking at an AMD CPU since they run cooler and between reddit and pcpartpicker ive been researching the best fans and ways to maintain proper airflow and exhaust with it.

I'll let you know for sure, right now I'm in research phase. Wanting to build this year but got some other life changing events to pay for first.

PC components ain't cheap for sure; since you're doing a build this year definitely go AM5 and definitely wait for sales!

Mine's only a 1440P gaming PC with light CAD work

Here's idle temps as of now

I built my garage computer in an ITX cube and debated for a long while swapping some things around to use that mobo with my current cpu and gpu in a mint colored fractal terra.

I do like my garage case though, got it simply because it came with a giant ass 200mm fan  (well, and it was cheap, $55). Upgraded my desktop to a 5600x from a 3600, stuffed an EVGA 3060 I had in it, and ended up with a massively overkill pdf shop manual reader and youtube computer in my garage. Added a couple 80mm fans along the back and she stays pretty cool.

.....Then went and covered it on 4 sides with a cardboard box to keep the metal shavings and dust out :anonymous:

    Those are great temps.

Yeah mine will be 1440p and some light gaming/online browsing. I have 1440p now and enjoy it a lot; would love to be 4k ready thought once 4k becomes more mainstream.

seeing that just makes me want a monitor mounted above my 34" ultrawide..

and think that my air cooling in my case probably isnt great since my 6700xt gpu idles at 50 C

50 isn't a bad thing, my front is solid/sealed so extremely limited air coming in

    Different GPU different efficiency

    I couldn’t agree more…
That’s from my doorway in my bedroom. Student apartments are very small. And now my ultrawide I’m using is 2” shorter than the entire width of my desk

and the desk isn’t deep enough for it so the legs poke under my mouse mat a little bit. And my desk is propped up on the close side by wood blocks so when I sit at the chair my legs can fit under it… the chairs too tall for me to fit my legs under the desk without lol

Need to reformat and re-purpose one of my SSD's

    Clean up some GPU's

    Find a power supply

But putting together a retro build from old parts; I've got more ram modules than I thought from DDR2, multiple types of DDR3, even DDR4

    XFX780 SLI
    Core 2 Quad 9300 or Core 2 Duo E8400 (I have both)
    OCZ DDR2 800mhz 4gb
One, two, or three EVGA 9800 GTX + in SLI

All in a cheap Antec case I grabbed on Amazon

That VRM and chipset cooler is wild. Obviously my vote is 3 way SLI. Looked up when that mobo came out and it was when I was in high school. Thanks for making me feel old, but also somehow younger than I thought? Looking at it and thinking ddr2 I would have thought it was older.

First time I ran SLI was on a different board with dual 8800 GTS cards and an E8400 overclocked to the moon

Was my 2nd deployment gift to myself after buying myself another motorcycle

I was like 22 or 23 at that time...damn, I really do feel old now :bananadead:

Scored a NOS Thermaltake cpu cooler for $20 shipped on Ebay

    20240208_085606.jpg

Obviously the right socket type, even the mounting plate says so (LGA775)

Edit; had to physically bend this shit significantly to fit

    Yeah.
Those won't flex enough to attach? Could you put some spacers under the ring?

    Way too tight

The distance from plate (sitting on the mobo) to the bottom surface of the heatsink is approximately 0.13"

The surface of the motherboard to the top surface of the CPU is 0.34"

Wanted to see how far off it was
