Thanks for help guys. Any recommendations on getting behind that panel of switches to check? Does that panel pop out the front?

Hold on. I think we're still a few steps away from diving into the dash. Based on that one blurry tiny photo, something is weird.

Can you post a better picture of the dash, and maybe your rear bumper?

Does your rear bumper have the four divots that are the sonar sensors? And do your mirrors have little yellow lights that indicate when a car is in your blind spot (different button, but always sold as part of the same package).

I'm saying this because the picture you provided has the very blurry appearance of a stock truck that was never equipped with parking sensors.

    Hence, my confusion.

Not true. At least not on my 2017 Limited. The BSM sensors are behind the bumper, at the corners.

:anonymous::anonymous: damn, you made me look.

Furiously scrolling through my camping album...

One on each bumper cap, one on each side of the plastic step face. Four visible in total, just not immediately noticable.

I didn’t know 2017 has BSM. Reading into it seems there isn’t a switch, it may need to be disabled from the computer if he doesn’t want it. Or OP just needs to find the buzzer and put a switch on it?

    I was wrong. I mis-remembered.
My van has BSM, Cross traffic alert, and does not have exposed sensors.

no. 2017 has blind spot monitoring and a switch to turn it off if you have the package.

yeah, grab that potato-phone, or call your neighbor, and take better pics of your interior and rear bumper, before you go diving in.
If it is aftermarket, you are best finding and identifying the make and model to seek help.

My 2017 has both, BSM and Parking Sonar. There is a button for each under the AC controls.

For reference - this is a 2017 with technology (and premium leather) packages:

This would be a 2016/2017 TRD trim without the tech package:

Notice that there aren't any blanks or fat-finger separators on the lower dash panel. It's solid smooth plastic.

My current wild-ass-guess is that OP is backing trailers after he removes his seatbelt, and the beeping is just all a zany coincidence. :spy::spy::spy: It's either that or the previous owner's dog chewed up the lower dash and they replaced it with the wrong part.

Either way, there's a crazy story here and I'm wanting to see which way it goes.

it looks like OP may have the later pic,, IE the model W/O Tech, but that is me attempting to blowup his/her provided microfiche image.

    Yeah.
The parking sensors are the 4 small circular ones in the bumper. I assume those holes have dummy plugs in the bumper if you don't have that option. BSM and cross-traffic is behind the bumper ends, if you have it. The wiring for both may be there even on something with a non-tech package, so maybe the PO got creative? I sold all of my sensors after replacing the bumper but still have all the switches.

IMG_2606.jpg IMG_2611.jpg IMG_2610.jpg Sorry for delay in responding—- but my Tacoma does not have the tech package and is like 2nd pic from Rock Lobster. I do have only backup sonar and not BSM. I am posting better pics. I still do not understand why there is not a switch to turn off ParkAssist

    Yeah.
Many times all the wiring and programming is present for certain features, they just omit the sensors and switches on certain models. For example, my 2009 was a base model without fog lights, but the wiring was there for them. Easy upgrade.

It could be that the previous owner got some sensors off of Amazon or something and connected them up. If they are on by default, that may be all he needed to do. Otherwise he'd have had to splice some wiring behind that switch panel. I'd pull that panel off and see if there's any funny wiring. Some people with small garages like having them to park as close to the back wall as they can.

OP, post a picture of the wiring behind the bumper, specially the driver's side area.

Here is my new wild-ass guess.

    upload_2024-2-9_7-47-50.png

Aftermarket kit, completely separate from HU. I wonder if OP could have a quick poke under the steering wheel to see if a suspicious speaker is easily found.

me thinks you are correct, aftermarket is my guess too.
OP could probably also quickly ID aftermarket wiring under bumper, unless someone did such a good job wiring in a loom or piggybacking with OE wiring.

Definitely an aftermarket backup sensor system. Note that the sensor locations don't match the stock location on the bumper caps.
