Yeah, it’s a skill but by no means difficult to master. Certainly not as intimidating as welding. For some of these switches a 3mm led doesn’t require any, you just have to jerrymander the two leads through and around the brown plug.
Some aftermarket switches have smd leds(surface mounted device) and some have axial leads. Those don’t generally fail though and I only mess with them because OCD to match colors and brightness.

All you need is a t3 neowedge white led bulb. The only issue with some cheapo aftermarket bulb bases is the retention tabs that twist in to the switch suck. Usually I unbend the small wires of the aftermarket LED and swap the led over to the OEM bulb base after discarding the OEM bulb.

Did that hook method end up working for you? I spent the better part of a few hours messing with fishing line trying to get that damn fog light switch out. No chance that was going to work for me. I have no idea how OP did it...

Anyone else have any other ideas how I might pop the fog light switch out without tearing the whole dash apart? We are still limited on daylight here in the great white north, and that burnt out bulb has been bugging me lately

If you can’t repeat the OP’s method you’re stuck. Toyota layered the panels in a way that forces you to do it a certain way to get up there. Door sill & dead pedal < kick panel< knee panel with lower switches. Still, it’s not all that big of a deal if you can work in a heated space, maybe 15 minutes tops to get the panels off and the switch out. The radio is more than twice as much crap to remove.

Thats my issue. No heated shop, and Maine is not exactly warm this time of year..

The paper clip was not stout enough for me, but I hope to try something else once I get some free time

You can pop the switch out with a two small screwdrivers.

That's all I did to replace the whole switch with a two button unit. And I fished the new wires through only needing to pull the fuse cover off.

If it’s that cold you also risk breaking the button. Definitely risk gouging both it and the panel. Wait until you can do it the right way or be prepared to endure any consequences.

If it's that cold just let the truck run with the heat on for awhile.
