Spray-on Bed Liner? C’mon guys…..

I’ve seen a couple of 2024 new G4 Tacomas with $600 added to the sticker for a spray-on bed liner. Other than ripping customers off for an additional $600, why would a Tacoma need a spray-on bed liner, or any kind of bed liner for that matter? Ay caramba.

It’s like charging extra for factory air in the tires.

 

One word:

 

Same thing goes for the fabric protection package and nitrogen in the tires.

 

I mean if “scotch guard” is applied properly, it truly works. Professional cleaning is part of my job so I have a lot of experience. But of course they probably don’t even do anything except for put in on the “extras” list.

Here is my previous truck. At the time was 11 years old and 165k mikes. Seats looked brand new except for some minor wear at the bolster:

I professionally cleaned and protected twice a year or so.

 

I have no doubt that in the hands of a professional they can work wonders, but I’m wondering if they just flat out lie and don’t do anything or they get the new guy a bottle they bought off Amazon and tell him to spritz it around the interior.

Nice doggo! I adopted a mature dog couple years ago aaaand I’m not so OCD anymore on keeping my interior clean. I do wipe it down from time to time but the dog hair don’t bug me anymore. My seats are leather so that makes it easier.

It’s actually nice, much easier to live that way haha.

My bet is on a “flat out lie”. Most folks don’t know how to check if their upholstery has been professionally protected.

It’s actually quite simple. Put a drop of water on your upholstery, if it turns into a “ball” and rolls then it’s good. Same goes for the carpet, grout, natural stone etc.

 

so, essentially, just like the protection stuff you put on your hiking boots to make them waterproof.

 

Exactly sir. It’s so simple yet I haven’t met 1 homeowner that knows this.

Sad to say, at my old job everyone but me didn’t even bother sealing grout even though customer is paying for it. They just sprayed the tile and mopped the floor with microfibre mop. That does fuck all.

Im the only person that had “grout wand” in my truck. The other method is to flood the floor, then squeegee into the low spot then vacuum. Super messy but works.

 

You ought to see the number of 3rd gen tundra folks who get them. I have had 6 told tacoma's and all with the composite bed and a bed mat. I don't understand the spray in liner for a 3rd gen tundra or a tacoma ever.

 

The purpose is to make more money for the dealer. Nothing more.

 

I just mean the people who are begging and asking for it on the Tundra 3rd gen and now ones who will want it on the 4th gen taco. I do not understand their logic. I know the dealer's reasoning.

 

It’s like a pocket protector protector.

 

All these add ons are a complete joke, they should be discounted or free when negotiating with some of these thieves dealerships

 

It’s clean but the shiny steering wheel and armrest certainly don’t hide the miles

 

It’s a proven fact that people think that anything that’s not leather is “cloth” or “leatherette” and therefore cheap.

Toyota has been offering soft tex, neoprene, and other seat combinations for years, which are extremely durable, stain resistant, and breathe better, but people just see that it’s not leather so therefore it must suck.

 

Steering wheel was always shiny to be honest. The armrest I got from a junked ford explorer with gray interior so I painted it Did not come out that well.

But yeah you can’t hide wear. I’m thinking of putting a seat cover on my driver seat since i use my truck for work now. My leather seat is still quite nice so I wanna preserve it.

 

The middle section where you sit is actually stained and sealed leather. Bolsters and back of seats are softex or whatever.

Having real/raw leather in a vehicle requires a lot of upkeep for it took decent. I remember king ranch Ferds used to come with this brown leather that would just like garbage if you didn’t take care of it. Well nobody really did hah.

Look how shitty that looks:

 

Porsche has “natural leather” that winds up looking that way as well. Many people think that makes the vehicle look much more authentic.
