I had had Toyotas in the past - don't have the privelage of having one now. I have an F150 and I would like to put a Toyota pickup-style parking brake in it - the kind that is attached under the dash to the right of the steering wheel that you pull to park, and twist to go. Can someone tell me if the parking brake handle assembly is screwed to the dashboard or is connected to the dash by brackets welded or formed? The basic question I am trying to answer is how difficult would it be to move this nice piece of engineering to another vehicle not made for it.

Sorry to bother you. I would buy a TLC if it weren't so expensive...but I am poor, so I must buy a 1992 Ford :)

It wont be easy of course.. But if your trucks parking brake is currently activated by pulling on a cable, I would imagine it is possible to change it to the toyota style pull handle.. How well it turns out will be dependent on the quality of your work as everything will have to be custom fabricated.
Kind of seems like more trouble than its worth, but if its what you really want and you've got the know-how, I'm sure you can make it happen.

Check out this thread for pictures: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/parking-break.823804

It has a lot of pictures of the brake handle mechanism and you can decide if its something you want to keep looking into.

Thank you. When I was shopping for a truck, I wanted to get one with a manual transmission. I have driven a stick for more than half of my driving life, but I have always had a hand operated parking brake. I live in SW Washington, which is quite hilly, and I forgot how useful a hand operated parking brake is with a stick shift and hills!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The Ford cabs have the parking brake attached to the left side of the cab.

Routing a cable to use a handle to the right of the steering column is going to take some work.
Plus if it breaks your replacing custom parts.

It can be done if your able to figure it out .

    Good luck.
