Flatbed 2nd Gens

One thing that gets wasted with a lot of flatbeds is the potential storage! Here are some images of the storage cubbies. Also, what to do with the gas filler. I made a sheet-metal cover and bought a locking Heep filler door. I have a heep part on my Taco... Oh the injustice!

The furthest most back cubbie: Winch, tools etc. Then the forward cubbie: camping stuff and the spare axle shaft long poles and torque wrench. The spare is out and you can see some of the xmember modifications. Tied the frame together. Tied the trailer receiver to frame. Tied Hammer Hangers to receiver/frame. STOUT! The Haunch Pockets are HUGE. I have all of my recovery gear in the passenger side one and this side has extra tools and parts etc.

 

Not sure. It was cheap and I had it on had it on hand. Like the look. Not very durable. Certainly would not spend real money for hard wood. Better for sleeping than metal, and I sleep up there... So, solid maybe.

 

No i agree, I'm not about to spend 10k on a flatbed.

I love the big storage draw under the tray. Looks like it would be well sealed too, with that big gasket?

I would have boxed the frame rails too tho. And now you need a V8 so you can actually use all that space lol

 

I thought about it, but time was short. Yes, although a little diesel might be a bit cooler... I tend to crawl, so want lots of torque not so many horses. have a friend who is a boat mechanic. My understanding is there are a lot of diesels that are made by Toyota floating around out there. SAS and a diesel sound pretty cool to my way of thinking...

Thanks, it's been working great, nice and dry, the slides I bought are rated for 550lbs so no worries about what you can put in it either.

To be honest I couldn't tell you, a friend of mine had them left over from his Tacoma and I trade him for a couple of ribeyes.

 

This is my next project. I really want a drop side bed / aussie style bed
