I've been reading through the forums. This is what I'm thinking about doing on my 2014 off road double cab. I run empty 99% of the time. Once a year haul grass. Twice a year drive with 2 or 3 other people skiing or camping ~1000 miles with suitcases, food, water in the back, no topper. I'm looking for a smooth ride, handle on the road well. Current rear sags. Figure to go for new leafs and not just add a leaf. Thinking of like 2 - 2.5 inches of lift. I have to drive long distance on the road a few times a year of the times not mentioned.

    Front Bilstein 6112
    Rear ICON RTX leafs
    Michelin Defender 265/75/R16

Questions, there are lots of answers in the threads to dig through. Maybe you can help out of suggest.
    1. Does this seem like a good setup?
    2. 6112 setting, debating on the 2.2' versus 2.5" available
    3. ICON RTX debating on option 1 1.85" lift, or option #2 2.25" lift unloaded 1.75" loaded
    4. Will I need stops on the rear? for either setup
    5. Will I need new upper control arms for either setup?
    6. Should I worry about driveline vibrations and maybe a drop kit?
    7. Do I need brake line extension?
    8. Spare tire, can I use the 1" shorter spare still as long as not offroading? It is 265/70/R16

@rnish thanks a ton. My wife thinks I'm crazy doing all this with 160K on it. But I kept my last one for ~300k. The ride has deteriorated alot since new, so this is big for me. Since it's old, maybe even do more 4x4ing on my farm. I will have to post a pic in my profile when done.

Glad to be of help. ‘Also recommend “while you are in there”, all new OEM Toyota hardware (bolts, washers, nuts, bushings, leaf spring shackles). It makes the work faster vs. rehabilitation and reuse of the old hardware. I have used MOOG, but that’s just trying to keep the vehicle running for another year, sounds like you want to keep this vehicle.

    Longer SS brake lines.
I had OME driveshaft spacer but took it out to install IEDLS bearing and pieced together my own spacers to drop it down the same amount.

RXT bought used in Op3 that I need to figure out if I should keep as 3 or change to 2. Maybe flip them if I can as there’s some left sag. but it could be coming from my front. Why upgrade other things but not that.

6112 is adjustable to compensate for Taco lean and is advised to not max out.

I have UCAs. People generally put them with lift.
Knew a guy with lift and no UCA. His stock UCA would smack the spring.

if the stock UCA is worn out why spend time and money to replace it with the same shit part.

spare should generally match in size.
It depends. Open diff? No problem. Unlocked and no LSD? No problem.

different sizes kick on LSDs and wear it out. Or might not be happy mismatched if driving locked.
Last time I used my spare my tire got punctured. Changed it and got to Discount down the road for a repair. Size wouldn’t have mattered much there.

archive yellow bump stop u bolt flip kit is said to be good. I have that and PerryParts in front.

I found a local independent guy to set me up since work is too crazy for me. I ended up going with below on the setting

    Front Bilstein 6112 - set at 2.2"
Rear ICON RTX leafs - option 1, ~1.875"
Michelin Defender 265/75/R16 1" increase of stock off road
    Left the 5100s in back

My rear springs must have been really bad, so much better on large bumps and dips.
Lifted the front passenger about 2"
Lifted the front driver about 2.5"
So the taco lean is roughly about 1/4" toward passenger side with full tank of gas on front and back, assuming I was parked completely level.

Need to do more testing, but so far really impressed. It seems way better on highway than 5100s with stock coils set 1 up from bottom. Went over some large dips and potholes and gobbled with up and was very quiet. Did one curb jump, seemed like nothing. Seems firm on road, maybe slightly less than previous setup, but washouts and uneven roads works well. Pretty happy so far.

Just coming back one year later to say for me, "This is the way". Added UCAs then later a small diff drop to this config. This is so much better than stock. I have the extra leaf if I ever start hauling and want it in. Also the guy that set me up, did a second alignment for free after a few months after settlement.

Pre lift, I had some vibration at higher speeds before, replaced all the diffs but still there. Also prelift my rear leafs were sagging.

After lift a slight vibration was still slightly there, added drive space, none / zero vibrations now.

The drive is way better on road and really good off road. Everything is better besides, except I get about 1 MPG less sometimes slightly more, yes I'm accounting for the larger tires

When I eventually get another tacoma like a 4th gen in a couple of years, will probably by the off road then add my own slight lift.

See my signature… similar set up and I love it. I went with 32” tires and am very happy as a daily driver, weekend off-road, camping etc.Going on 2 years with install and love it.

To really unlock the truck, your next step is hammer hangers. I pushed up through 5100s/dakars, liked it better than stock, wore it out, went to 6112/5160 and RXT and thought it was definitely better again above the old setup. I'd heard a lot about HHs but didn't know if I was ready to buy the hype. I ended up doing them anyway and I'm now a believer. If you did your own suspension you can do your own HHs.
