The compressor from the Amana (R-12) can be seen on the left, and the compressor from the Magic Chef (R600a) is in the right...

I think it was on the market for a while. The unit is from 2007 and uses R-22 Freon, so it's not exactly legal to resell/reuse as per the EPA; I educated the seller and told him that I am an autistic HVAC enthusiast who loves to dissect HVAC equipment and then scrap it for money. He must have liked my story; I also got the impression that it's just taking up space at this point and he wants it gone.

I paid forty bucks for the 2008ish 3.5-ton Goodman heat pump that @Stitchgirl90 and I tore apart in the bed of my truck last weekend. This unit is an ICP (International Comfort Products) straight-cool unit from 2007. Since it isn't a heat pump, it has a little bit less copper in it, but it is a full half of a nominal ton (6,000 BTUs) larger than the Goodman; I'm also getting the air handler, and I'm paying half what I paid for the Goodman! I did turn a profit on the Goodman, but I can tell you that I'm probably going to get $35-40 JUST for the condenser coil on this one. In addition to the condenser, I also have the indoor coil. In terms of outer dimensions, a 4-ton ICP will not be much larger than a 3.5-ton Goodman. However, the compressor will be larger, and thus heavier. I am also scrapping a water heater, a gas grill, and a fireplace screen tomorrow.

Having a truck has really paid off for you. Not sure I could be without one for very long. (I've tried for 6 months)

On another note, I have come to terms with the fact that I am going to need a new truck sooner rather than later. This still does not change the fact that I have come to view my truck as a member of the family rather than a means of transportation. We've been through a lot in the last 14 years, mostly good but some of it bad. My truck has survived...

    • Getting hit by a drunk driver in 2015
    • Getting the entire underside replaced in 2021
    • Having a pipe dropped on in it February 2022
    • New head gasket and timing chain in November 2022
That's barely even scratching the surface!

I've been on so many adventures in my truck, exploring Centralia and driving as far as upstate New York for a car show just to name a few; I used my truck to rescue the most amazing woman I've ever met (and her ungrateful bitch of a friend) from a truly shitty situation less than a year ago!

I would love nothing more than to save and save so I can buy newer vehicle, and keep my Tacoma around as a second vehicle. With this job that I just applied for, that might just be possible!

I sure hope you get the position. That would be amazing for you.

I know the feeling on needing a newer vehicle. I'm just buying my time waiting to retire. I can see a Cadillac in my garage soon.

I picked up my prize today; I know it's an ICP (International Comfort Products), but I do not know the exact brand. ICP sells its products under numerous brand names (Comfortmaker, Day & Night, Heil, Tempstar, etc), and this one is missing the badging...

    No idea buddy.

All I know about HVAC is, "The house is too hot, or it's too old."
In those cases, the HVAC is "broke"

In which case, It is a wall heater, or box fan for me.
Because I don't know shit about HVAC.

    This particular air-conditioner is a 4-ton (48,000 BTU) straight-cool unit, manufactured in the 5th week of 2007...

The is the third central A/C that I've disemboweled since November 2022. The first unit (also an ICP, but a cheaper model) was a 2.5-ton (30,000 BTU), the Goodman heat pump that I stripped last weekend was a 3.5-ton (42,000 BTU), and this unit as stated above is a 4-ton (48,000 BTU); I have never seen a "dual-layer condenser" design like this, but I'm guessing it's unique to the larger and/or higher-SEER units...

One clue that this is a higher-end unit is the presence of a compressor sound blanket...

This is the TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve), which about 20 years ago was commonly only found on more expensive units...
