    Made some "flirt rag" handles today. It was tearing up my hands playing tug o war with the pup, so this helps. I gave one to our dog trainers and they wanted some more.

    I always wanted to try olive wood in a project or two, but it's scarce and expensive. I saw this today, fresh cut, a $100 for all of it. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I was jazzed about it earlier, but now I'm wondering - what do I do with it? I figure it has to be cut down into (small) slabs and air dried for a year or so. I don't have a saw that can cut at that depth. Any thoughts in cutting down? Wondering if I should just pass, or...?

    I also wanted to be sure that it is olive, so I googled it. This is what I see online;

    Its got a unique smell. Id paint or wax the ends to prevent checking. It turns real nice on lathe but is brittle.

    I have a friend who has a lathe that I learned to use. It was pretty awesome. He mentioned olive wood once and how he wanted to get some. I looked it up and it's a pretty wood, but as mentioned, scarce and pricey. If I do pick it up, I'll give him a bunch as well.

    I was at Woodcraft today, browsing their stock. I want to make a few game boards (Go) this spring and trying to decide on the wood species. They sell everything from giant slabs to pen blanks. They also have a bunch of smalls like 1/4x3x36, etc in exotic woods. A 1/4x3x24 is $26. When I see that I realize how much wood is in those raw logs.

    I hope you do get it and send us photos! I saw some really beautiful olive wood crafts at the local festival this year and I really wanted some of that stuff!
