Well with 256k miles I had a lot of blow by so pulled the engine and a ring froze on a piston and a cracked manifold. Going with ice header, new pistons and rings, stage 1 clutch kit and flywheel, and a stage 1 cam was recommended for a little extra power for roughly $800.

1st question is what kinda power can I expect with the stage one components including the cam and is it worth doing a cam.

2nd is what else should I replace since it's out other than gaskets and the obvious.

3rd is if I go with the cam well I need any kinda tuning done?

    All info appreciated. Thanks

I installed the LCE Stage 1 cams and the gains were marginal. A year later I pulled the motor and had LCE do a stage 1 build which is essentially a stock bottom end and the head fitted with stage 1 cams, ported SS valves, stiffer springs, etc. I think the porting made a big difference in addition to a fresh motor. I also replaced the stock ECU with a Haltech Elite 750 kit from LCE. Took a bit of tuning to get it dialed but the truck runs VERY strong. Pulls to 5250 RPM! Now for the bad new... $8500 for the LCE 3RZ long block, $2500 for the Haltech, then add add ons like header, new sub assemblies (starter, alternator...) and then the dyno tuning. I have about $13,000 under the hood!

Do so porting on the intake and ex ports. Get a nice egg shaped carbide burr and focus on the blows. Maybe widen the ports on the intake at the short turn radius. Go stage 2 cam if u want more decent amount more power. Match the inlet up also with the head and match header with ex runners.

So would you say the stage 1 cams do not give you much over the stocks?

You'll need an aftermarket ECU and porting with Stage 2 cams. The stock ECU won't keep up with Fuel and timing and the pinner ports barely flow enough for the stock cams.

I'm saying they work better with porting and an aftermarket ECU, at minimum.

Yea I can for sure see that. I didn't plan on new ecu or porting. I was just curious how much gain over stocks I guess

Probably 6-10% power gains with no porting

    6-10% isn't bad but idk if it's worth $800
