Everyone that I know that had a grey area bike that had their street tag pulled were guys that didnt have a pink slip that stated highway legal. (If you look at CA pink slips they actually say highway or off road) and it usually occurred when they bought the bike and change of ownership occurred.

My WR450 allegedly went through a full chp inspection/dmv inspection and I have an official from California pink slip stating that my vin is highway legal - that cant be changed *knocks on wood*.

Oh so you actually got your title status changed. yeah you should be good then lol. I believe technically it could be revoked, but that would require someone going out of their way to search up your vin, research the models to know what was sold as street/emissions legal, etc etc. Definitely wouldn't be worried about DMV workers doing all that lmao, especially when there'd be nothing on the title to point to there being an issue.

Lemme know if you're looking to sell ;)

just a couple of things tbh
out here there is no issue tagging any dirtbike tbh ive seen full on 2 stroke bikes running around that really shouldnt be legal but someone went and got a plate for it lol. our laws are pretty lax on dirtbikes and what is needed on them to be legal

Not sure where Cycle World is getting their numbers then. But still the new bike still isn't putting out as much as the old one and weighs a pound more? I agree with you on the FI, but still pretty disappointing numbers for a bike that is 34 years newer.

11,000 miles on the bike and the owner claimed that the tensioners had been recently replaced... but I haven't opened up the chest to verify. This bike originally was black and had mid controls...more my style

Shocks are new and I picked them up at fortnine.ca. When I was searching for shocks, fortnine had the 12.5 black for $589CDN or $440USD... every other 444 version was $1000 CDN/$750USD or more. Seemed like a screaming deal at the time

So the Ninja 500 is a stroked ninja 400 (its only 51ccs larger). Ill bet it makes a good chunk more torque and hp over a larger rev range. vs the 400. Just look at where the peak HP / TQ figures lie, 1krpms less for hp 2k rpms less for torque. The "area under the curve" on the dyno chart is guaranteed much more than the 400 making for much more usable power on the 500 (451)

Yep agree, just crazy that the 1990 Kawasaki EX500 engine puts out the same numbers. So much for the "new" 500.

LOTS to do with emissions / euro 5 - reason why the inline4 R6 is no more same with the super tenere etc etc.

Yeah.. area under the curve is more important than peak figures. Shifting it down 1 or 2,000 rpm's is HUGE.

not sure where they are getting the numbers but i trust kawi over a 3rd party that hasnt even seen the bike... now if someone has done a dyno graph of it then sure but i couldnt see the 451cc engine running the same power as the 399cc. even if it isnt putting out much more im pretty sure the new one will handle a lot better then the old bike

my guess is those numbers he keeps finding could be a euro model with more restrictions then ours and the us model has been opened up a bit. plus once it comes over here and is out for a bit tunninng will become a thing and bump its numbers up a bit and it will be a good bike at least for me lol

Is it possible the number discrepancy might be due to a crank hp vs wheel hp difference?

    IDK i'm just jumping in

Counter at $1800. Is that garage space worth $200 or even $500 if you accept the 1500 to you? There a value to just getting the space back and the whole thing over with IMHO.

How long has it been listed?

Are you seeing any being sold around that $2-3k price? or just listings?

I'd probably see if I could get better, provided you have the space to hold onto it longer/don't have a crushing need to get rid of it. But if you're just tired of having it, quick cash is always nice.
