Yea, I’m over how expensive the Gillette blades are. That’s one reason I decided to try the safety razor. The other is supposedly a better shave, and little to no razor burn. My sink and vanity is small. Drawers in one side and he other the plumbing and enough room for some soap and toilet paper. Already have a little shelf on the wall the the wife keeps some makeup on. Might have to put the stuff on my dresser in the room or something. 1st world problems lol

Safety razor, badger brush, George Trumper's shaving cream, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food. The Coral Skin Food was life-altering. That stuff can fix any skin issue, it seems. I got into it, because I hate to shave. The fancier products make it less of a chore.

Recently cleaned my safety razor holder(?) for the first time in years. Soaked it in vinegar and shook it every once in a while. It worked fine, but the metal was leave some kind of black oxidation tint in the vinegar. Kinda concerning. Any products out there, besides CLR (that stuff makes me nervous and smells terrible), to clean the calcification of the gear?

Oh yeah: don't forget the alum block for when you cut yourself because you're too lazy to change the blade early enough. Stops the bleeding fairly quick.

Don't know if I would classify it as a hobby. IMO, it's a skill. You really don't need multiple blades to get a close shave.

Don't have time for all that. I just use a Walmart Gillette razor with the fancy swivel ball and leaf spring, and Gillette shaving gel. Each blade refill lasts me 2-3 months; so a pack of 5 lasts a year.

I also buy firewood wrapped in plastic at the mall, paid with Mastercard, so I can drive 4 hours and burn them "off-grid". :anonymous:

I've been using a safety razor since I came across my Granpda's 1906 flaretip fifteen years ago, collected a little assortment of SuperSpeeds, I've got a shelf full of Gillettes now; redtip/bluetip/ a few toothed aristocrats, a birth month black handle from 79.. lol and a couple of straights as well.

It's made what used to be a chore into something fun.

Do you even have facial hair? Lol. A Gillette blade last me about 5-6 shaves before it starts tearing my skin up. I spend a couple hundred a year on replacement blades

Ya know, this thread could fall into 2 categories of men here and I'm just here for the LOLs now

Some people shave what little peach fuzz they have cause they just can't grow facial hair

Then others shave cause they prefer it, or have to maintain a 'professional' look; I fell into the latter of the two before I quit and now my beard gets yanked at by a 10 month old at all times

Tell you what, I'll never shave my face again though (with the exception of cleaning up the neck line and trimming/clean-up)

Agreed. I personally just enjoy the entire process. Plus the wife prefers me clean shaven

I shave every 2-3 days. The blades stay pretty sharp in my experience, but the blue/green strip wears out. I use the Gilette aloe/fusion/sensitive shaving gel that lubricates fairly well.

    I didn't

I grow facial hair like it's no one's business having a 5 o'clock shadow at 2pm, but I was in the military so yeah

My style of shaving was just straight 3 blade Gillette or whatever you had at the moment (water optional)

I will say, I love how my barber runs a straight razor on my cheeks to clean up my beard and sideburns and maybe I'll take something away from this thread to do so for myself
