Anyone on here ever done a long road trip in their off road toy. I'm talking the more offroad focused trucks. Looking for advice on what to bring, what to avoid, etc.

I'm looking at making a trip this fall for a few weeks. I'll be going from southwest Indiana down to New Orleans, then traveling up the coast to Connecticut and possibly further north and finally back across to Indiana. I'll be mainly traveling county highways. So I'm looking for recommendations of off road areas to see, other sites, etc.

Has anyone had trouble driving out of state with a lifted truck? I really don't want to get 16+ hrs from and have to turn around.

Pic of said truck for attention. It's on 37's, bobbed and what not so it can attract some attention.

I get about 17 or a little better on county highways, so it shouldn't be terrible.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The only areas you might have a problem is the rear bumper being to high . It should match DOT bumper height.

If your rear tires spray to much water . Those are the only 2 things I have every been looked at out of state.

For so much road driving planning on going with all season tires??

Is your seat up to those long days ??

I'm very much borderline on bumper height. Those are 37's but measure out about 35.5 or so. I plan on running it just as you see it. Never had an issue with spray, but may make a temporary flap setup and keep it in the bed. Just in case I do get pulled over?

The seats are actually in good shape. It's a bucket seat truck and more comfortable than most regular cabs.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I carry a basic tool roll and electrical repair stuff. I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, so I carry stuff I can use if needed. Tire repair & and an impact driver.

I think if you're staying off the major freeways you shouldn't have too much of an issue with the set up. DOT enforcement will be looking for the big trucks and bumper height is kind hard to eyeball on a moving target. Mind the speed limit and you should be good.

I've got an old military trunk I'll be turning into my road box for tools whatnot. I really need to figure out a bed cover solution to secure my gear and clothes etc. Bobbed bed is cool and all, but kinda hard to find a secure solution that looks decent.

I have a 3rd gen SB with a rack for a tent, no bed cover. We did a two week trip west and used a soft sided cargo bag in the bed. Two large suit cases and two carry on size. I anchored it to the bed tie downs and installed two more tie downs in the front. Worked like a charm. You could probably do a smaller one and tie it down.
