I figured why not, looks cleaner, and I have never seen it either. I'm about to trim out the entire bottom edge of the bed with edge guard, glued on, then re-rhino line my bottom 1/3 again around the entire body.

I replaced the brushes, because I am cheap. The holder with the brushes is not much more expensive, and you should use insulating varnish over the exposed solder joints. If you don't have the paint, you spend more time and money soldering new brushes than just buying the complete assembly.

These were the retail prices at the time I did it:
HOLDER ASSEMBLY, ALTERNATOR BRUSH 2737035060 $23.37
    BRUSH, ALTERNATOR 2737170300 $5.29

    This is the varnish:

My bearings were fine, and I don't think it would be worth the trouble to replace them. The rotor has copper or brass on it were the brushes rub against it. Mine had groves ground into it. If it needed more than brushes, I think that I would just buy a new one or try the GM alternator that I have seen people use.

Well, not really a mechanical, "today", but ...

I put a couple bikes on my DIY, swing arm, 2-bike carrier and a friend and I went riding - east of Portland, OR where there was more sun.

    upload_2024-2-7_22-54-59.png

This was the first on-road, shake-down of the carrier. Very happy with this creation.

Finally got a full sized spare since I moved up to 33’s, and also got the matching rim for when I go to the swing out rear bumper. Now it’s time to get the tire mounted!

Went out to fine a bit of snow, it's was the perfect depth to just have a bit of fun but some drifts were 3-4' and required some back and forth.

Who here has done oil filter relocation. I remember someone had but can't for the life of me remember who..

I'm wanting to do this on my DD, not my offroader. Just sick of doing oil changes every 3-6 months and making a mess.
