Sad but I fear I’ll be living with the noise and rough idle until something gives way and leaves me stranded

See what they say first . Make sure you explain everything from the beginning so they give it to an experienced mechanic

Did you look at the purge valve and trace the house to the intake?

Lift the plastic cover. It is on the left of oil filler cap.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Neither video sounds normal. Something is up.

My 2016 made some noises a few months ago after an offroad trip, similar to your first video. Issue went away on its own the same day, but I did change the PCV which “may” have contributed in my case. Ran smoother after the PCV change. 75K miles and I beat on my truck with hundreds of rough off road trips. TRD Off Road, automatic.

Your second video, that sucking sound is not normal.

My 2016 is significantly quieter than your Tacoma and no rough perfomance or idle issues or engine bay noises other than the standard tick-tick sound on passenger side that these have.

    Some repair is needed.

Thank you for your post. I agree, that sucking/grinding or however people want to describe it is bad sounds like something is loose or best I can describe it almost sounds like something is trying to engage but is stuck or jammed. If that makes sense lol

Dealer will prob tell you it's normal. It something was truly wrong with the engine it would set a CEL. They all have a bit of a vibration at idle. My 18 and 23 both do intermittently and so did my 2nd gen.

I don’t know man, that noise is pretty concerning to me grinding/sucking whatever term works best to describe it. In regards to vibrations at idle mine is very rough. The cab shakes and the longer it stays at idle the worse it gets. It does it every time and has never once idled smooth

You've had a few 3rd gens, did they vibrate at idle?

My 23 makes some noises my 18 doesn't. Just turned 12k miles and still runs great.

No none of them ever idled like this one. Not even close to the same vibrations. The noise sounds like something is coming part of trying to engage like a wratching noise

If you turn off all loads (light air, a/c), do you hear the same noise?
Does the rough idle cause rpm fluctuation?
Purge valve is active and causes idle rpms fluctuation. Usually AFR is being changed and ECU is compensating the fuel (short term trims)
You need a scanner to rule out misfires, fuel delivery, etc.

The only thing that was on eat the heater van at low speed. Other then that no loads on the engine. It made the noise in park and in gear. Idle rpm doesn’t fluctuate . Kinda why I’m at a loss on what’s causing the rough idle and the weird noise. I swear an engine light would have come on by now. The engine vibrates very badly and you can visually see how much it’s vibrating by looking at it in person. I’m just hoping the dealership can reach out to Toyota engineers

Sometimes low teir gas can cause an erratic idle. Not that it's your case here with the noise and all.
