    Vaneered ply or is it solid wood? You have a few options, you could stain, or dye. I like Minwax gunstock. It's not quite as red as red oak but it doesn't look orange. You can use it to try to mix your own stains with boiled linseed oil, paraffin wax and mineral sprits. Pretty durable and easy to apply and you can keep it in a mason jar. Melted bees wax also has a good tactile experience when you run your hands across it. Feels almost chalky. See below for some other options.
