Maintenance question

$142 for the alignment is a rip off. If your tires are not showing wear and you are not having any drivability issues, they can't make it better.

 

Just let him think he’s right and we can move on without him.

 

If your vehicle tracks runs straight on a flat road and there is even wear on your tires you shouldn't need a wheel alignment.

The Panasonic in our 4Runner is going on 8 years. Previous 4Runner, the battery went 9 years and I only changed it because it made me nervous. I can't say I feel extreme pride, though.

May not say frequency but still preventative maintenance. Theres prob more but im not going to sit and look them up.

@wilcam47, just because instructions are included on how to do it, doesn't mean it is a recommended or required procedure. Think about it, there are most likely instructions for R&Ring the cylinder heads as well, does that mean periodic head gasket replacements are necessary?

It flows either way depending on throttle position and engine load. Educate yourself on how breather systems work before shooting off your mouth.

 

I also have never heard any authoritative source recommending the cleaning of the throttle body as a part of preventive maintenance. What would it be preventing?

OP, none of the stuff you said the dealer recommended is a part of the published maintenance schedule, AFAIK. Modern cars have become more maintenance free than the old days, but people tend to hold onto old ideas.

The throttle body around the opening and butterfly needs to me be cleaned, maybe not necessarily for newer cars but for cars with more than 200k should. There's build up in that area and can cause the car/truck to stall while idling or when letting off the throttle while driving.
