Are people really paying $54,000 for 2024 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4s? Have we lost our minds?

Yes and yes. You can’t take it with you, so you might as well enjoy it while you are here.

I am old enough to remember $3K pickups. I gave up caring when I paid $38K for my '18. And then I kept adding shit on top of that.

One alternative is to go full Ted Kaczynski. I mean maybe he wasn't all that crazy. At least he didn't pay $54K for a pickup, dammit.

Prices of late have increased on everything but truck prices have taken it to a new level. To put it in perspective, not too long ago a 4x4 Tacoma could be purchased for approximately the same price as a Camry. Now the price for bottom of the line or ''value leader'' Tacoma is 15k more than a Camry. The Tacoma is no bigger now than it was, safety features and creature comforts are no more elaborate than the Camry. What gives! I am just looking for a practical vehicle to lug me and my stuff around but the cost to replace my aging Tacoma is just too out to lunch. By the way this rant applies to Canada as the US appears to offer a wider range of models.

Yeah it's nuts. You could very likely argue inflation, but I think it's a combo of inflation and Manufacturers really testing the limit of what people are willing to pay. I, for one, think they're quickly approaching that limit and may see a hit to quantity sold soon-ish. Whether that'll effect revenue is a different discussion. More units sold for less could equal less units sold for more.

the people that NEED a truck so that they can carry a full load of air in bed for 99.9999% of the miles driven is the reason prices of trucks have gone up

I think you can take that one step further and say the people the need a trendy aggressive looking truck have caused prices to go up.

As a matter of economic interest I'm curious how the truck will sell after the first ~6 months given current rates and the ~55K+ price tag for the higher trims. No matter how you dice it, thats a lot of coin for a four cylinder gasser that struggles to get 21 MPG. Curious about the hybrid price tag; it could be the wiser choice.

Yep. 68 year old 350lb woman at work just bought a Sequoia TRD Pro. The vehicle will never leave the payment unless she has a medical emergency and drives off into the ditch. It’s a damn nice ride tho.

So true, was driving on the highway last Sunday afternoon and there were a large number of trucks heading home after the weekend. A few were carrying ATVs or snowmobiles but the vast majority were towing trailers with their toys in them and with nothing visible in box. I guess it must be easier to load a trailer and hook on rather than load a truck. Got me thinking, maybe buy a rav4 hybrid and dig out my old utility trailer would be a more practical and a lot cheaper, then again, I gota have a truck!

That looks pretty dumb to me having the tire which isn’t very big in terms of trucks and Jeeps stick out that far past the already wide fender flares.

Wait until you see the price of the hybrid Trailhunter. Probably $69,998.

Im more surprised that’s a 0 offset on an 8.5” wheel.

My -12 offsets don’t stick out that far. Don’t remember the wheel width but they are SCS BR6 16”.

I’d have to look into seeing if the fenders are different on the SR and OR or vs the 3rd gen OR. Here’s mine for reference 255/85/16

Oh heck yah. The $112,000 2500 and 3500 trucks sell like hot cakes around here in B.C. Where I live in the Okanagan Valley almost every driveway has at least 1 truck in it.

Just a way to scrape curbs and make the truck less useful off-road.

Why would you want the tires to stick out and sling mud/rocks etc. all over the side of your truck?

I'm an old geezer and maybe I just don't understand. I'll go outside now and yell at the clouds.

For years I ran 35"x12.5" R17 mud terrains on my jeep. Had about ~1" poke past the fenders but man would they really eat through anything I ran into offroad. I recently switched to 11.5" wide Wildpeaks though to save my ears on road trips.
