A couple of my friends have Cybertrucks and love them. None of them are truck guys though so I’m a bit worried about it for off road adventures plus they are big trucks. We’ll see I have my reservation too but I’m leaning Ranger Raptor.

I never thought I’d say this but I think I’d take the Cybertruck. Some of the features do genuinely seem useful. I’m just not sure if EVs are really ready for remote travel yet.

Lot of people reserved these when Elon was saying they would be like 60k.

Now that the high end is 100k and then you need another 12k or so battery to put in the bed to not even get the 500 mile range that was advertised I'm sure a lot of people will say they decided to take it another direction.

That said.....guna wait a couple years and see what people say about the long bed with the double cab. The extra room or maybe spot to sleep seems cool but clearly worse on trails.

....and end up getting an off road and mod it.

The CT is an amazing engineering and manufacturing showpiece. The deeper the dive, the more I appreciate the sheer guts to make these decisions. Decisions way beyond the "storage" tunnel in a Rivian. And yes, EVs are not ready for remote travel. If I didn't require my truck to be a dispersed camping RV, I would get it.

I was hoping Tesla would create some type of solar charging capability on the Cybertruck. Yeah it’s not going to meaningfully help you day to day but desert camping it would be great and if you ran out of charge in the middle of nowhere at least you could limp yourself back to help over a couple days.

I think you would freeze to death or cook if you are out in the desert with a EV and no way to charge. Same as if you are in a gas vehicle and run out of gas.

You could make the entire rooftop of the cybertruck solar panels and you would probably have enough electricity to run the fan

Naw, you can get about 6 miles of range from a Prius solar roof if you leave it out all day. The CT is less efficient obviously but you also have more roof to work with. Let’s say you get 3 miles under perfect conditions. That still gets you out of a lot of situations out west in 5-10 days. Which sounds like a lot but if you’re not an idiot you’d be carrying a lot of food and water.
