What backspacing are you running with 35s?

I know this topic has been beat to death but I have read thread after thread and they all seem to get derailed pretty quickly as far as exact specs people are running or everyone just goes straight to 4" which I would rather not do. I am trying to keep my tires as far in as possible but at 4.61" of backspacing I am rubbing my swaybar and UCA pretty hard. I am putting some slip on 1/4" spacers that will push it out to 4.37" but i'm assuming I will still be rubbing a bit. Im curious if there is a certain point where you can clear the UCA before you get all the way to 4" of backspacing. As of now I am running 315/70/17s with a 17x9 wheel. Any advice is appreciated :)IMG_6812.jpg
Going to bust out the sharpie on the UCA after the spacers and see what kind of difference it makes

I admire your optimism that your thread is going to end any different than the others.

The short answer to your question is, it depends. Not all tires, wheels, alignments, etc are the same. You need to work it out for yourself and your truck, especially since it sounds like you decided to do something different than what others have done.

Fair enough! I will update the thread once I get it all together in case anyone is in a similar situation looking for info. I guess when you're talking about matters of half an inch there is definitely a lot of variation between trucks.

One other note, for better answers you should describe the full details of your tire and wheel specs. There are many different width 35's and the width of your wheel will affect the width of the tire when mounted.

Is there a reason you want to run a sway bar? You have adjustable coilovers. Figure ypu tighten those up and it will be a little more sway than normal, but you'll have more travel for offroad

I'm just not a fan of body roll. After installing the camper shell it got to be pretty aggressive even with the coilovers tightened up. Even in the city all of my crap would smack into my doors every time I turned. I did finally swap out my front springs and added a rear swaybar and now I am really happy with the way to truck drives at the moment aside from the rubbing.

Coil-over preload does not change the stiffness of the spring, thus it will have no direct effect on body roll like you are implying.

I would highly recommend using hubcentric spacers with studs. Between the rim and the thin studless spacers on stock the factory stud it might not leave many theads for the lug.

Not sure I follow, I did not adjust my preload collar. I swapped out the spring for a stiffer spring. I went from a 600lb to a 650lb spring

Swapping out my wheel studs for longer ones before I put the spacers on, if I did it now I would only get 5 full turns on the front. I agree, I am not usually a fan of slip ons but for my application I don't have a ton of options

Oh I see, my bad! I think what he was referring to was the adjustment on the shock compression

Update: New studs and 6mm wheel spacers are on. Got a good 15 turns of the lug nuts on the front and rear using Dorman stud p# 610-463. I am now clearing the swaybar completely and lightly brushing the passenger control arm. I am not hitting the control arm enough to feel it in the truck or steering wheel, I can just barely hear it at full steering lock in reverse so it is not worth pushing out further. With a 3"/2" lift, 4.37" of backspacing on a 315/70/17 Toyo Open Country R/t with a 17x9" wheel I would say I am just barely above the threshold for maximum backspacing to clear 35s on the interior of the wheel well. I imagine it may rub a bit more on the trail cycling the suspension but for street driving it is pretty much perfect. Of course everyones mileage may vary as no two trucks are the same but I could not find much information on running 35s at maximum backspacing so I hope this helps anyone in the same boat as me!

Do you rub the cab mount on reverse fulllock? CMC done?

Clearing the cab mount just fine on the street. I had a CMC done but I have a bit more I may chop off sometime down the road. I imagine it could rub a little bit if i'm turning while going over a harsh bump but I have a little bit of room to spare in that area

I have CMC, but only rubs on reverse. 35/12.5/17 toyo. O offset 17x8.5 with a .75" wheel spacer, so @ 4.25bs.

Maybe my CMC could be improved. @4" lift.

Sorry to interject my issue on your thread

    Awesome, that's all that matters.

So I've been rubbing my UCAs for about 100k miles. It's only light, so every now and again I hit them with spraypaint. Same with my wheel wells.

I don't know. My alignment guy who is supposedly best in town, I just told him to do it around 4*. He does it the old school way so there's no print out.

He actually aligned it on my old 285/75/17 Coopers.
