Works really well with Sand. Nice touch!

Wrapped mine before I added the roof rack. Just figured it would help protect the paint, looks good, and something I don't have to worry about. I do hit it will some 303 every once in a while and get it cleaned up. I had a buddy do it, he said it was kind of a pain as he had to drop the headliner inside to get around the antenna and the brake light.

How hard is this to DIY?

have DIYd hood scoop vinyl and tint before. Far as I’m aware it’s just soapy water, heat gun, gloves, squeegees, and patience.
And somehow carefully cutting it without scratching the truck underneath.

I’m considering it after being quoted $400 to make the roof white
A roll on Amazon probably way cheaper.

Is clear fade a problem? Buddy who worked in auto body recommended hitting the whole roof with 2000 grit wetsand to level it, then vinyl.
Said clear deterioration would cause visible level change pattern areas showing in the vinyl

don’t know if it’s better to extend it farther out or just run to the edges and curve around. My drip rail moulding trims are off now but plan to put them back on after I source the front glue on clips.

I just had my roof professionally LineXed with the fancy UV resistant stuff. Never have to worry about it, and cuts noise. I can lash light objects directly to it if I need to. Bonus it’s completely immune to hail damage now.

Aftermarket roof racks are dumb though. 40+ lbs of aluminum latticework on top of the truck adds a ton of drag and alters your COG significantly. Instagram shit all over the roof is profoundly stupid in my opinion, and significantly increases rollover risk and decreases mileage and highway range. Just go OEM if you need to mount a kayak or something.

THis looks great and I have considered doing this with my SR. I did wrap my Grill emblem with a grey tint to bring down the silver gloss about a year ago and it still looks new so I think I could do it. My thought was to use the vinyl knifeless cutting tape, make my lines, adhere the vinyl and peel the cutting tape for a nice clean line.

    how much was the linex?

    Maybe.
My Hooke Road rack buffeted and made wind noise that better racks may have less or none of especially if adding roof dynamat.

I don’t know how much 35-45lb messes with things especially given how common they are.

reasons for considering it is ability to carry plywood and more gear on trips sleeping in the bed. To have room.
Knockoff Plano case with stuff like spare axle, portable water, hi lift mounted to it, detachable solar panel, etc

    It was like $550 iirc.

When you’re on an off camber trail at a 25 deg angle, just 45 lbs on the roof is a lot of force. Heck even just taking a turn on the street, or getting hit by another vehicle. Add to that if you have stuff bolted to it. I shudder to think what heavy sloshy stuff like water, axles, and a hilift jack would do.

People are free to make their own choices. In my experience it’s profoundly dangerous.

I turn slowly. No front sway bar.
People see the truck. If they hit it, good luck to them. 360 degree steel armor.
thank you I’ll see what happens.

3 wheeled and angled the truck on Black Bear Pass with a rack no issue.
Co worker did the same and he’s got a spare up there + RTT

How is the LineX holding up so far? I'm trying to decide on a wrap or bed liner for my roof.

I did mine over 3 years ago, is still holding up alright. It was a cheap wrap. It's faded but I'm good with it.

I vinyl wrapped my wife's whole car, a 1996 RAV4, just a few months ago! It has been painted a few times, including once where I painted the entire car with spray cans! None of the paint jobs lasted as long as I would have wanted, and it was then, that I thought about wrapping the whole car in vinyl. I watched Youtube videos of course, and finally decided to just do it. The car looked so bad that anything was an improvement! The wife even told me that she didn't want it to look too perfect, because she didn't want anyone to try to steal it! It is not perfect, but I think anyone who watched the video I made of the process, will agree that it turned out pretty darn good! The wife is happy! Life is good! I am not monetized on youtube, but for anyone who would like to see the video I made of wrapping one's entire car, here is the link:

Perfectly, but my truck just sits in the garage most of the time since I work from home.
