Premium package, advanced tech and a couple odds and ends like floor mats and mud guards, no other nonsense. Stickered at ~$44,500 (and I took it home for $2k off, somehow..). Closely configured 4G tips in at $52,500.

    TacomaWerld Math: (52,500 - 44,500)/(44,500) = <10%

There are still new 2023 Tacomas available for sale therefore there is no inflation at all between the two trucks.

My truck is identical in price, what isn’t included is transaction price. Like you I paid a bit under MSRP which will really make me feel like I’m paying a lot more.
I do like the new suspension, frame, integrated brake controller, and tech stuff like wireless CarPlay, cameras that look like the resolution belongs in 2024 not 1994, and ventilated seats. But currently that is not worth paying $10,000 more for those options.

Just curious where you got yours from? Wilde by chance? I had been looking nationwide for months, then all of the sudden in December ‘22 this place had like 12 MT trucks (half of them Lunar Rock), all $2k under. Only place I saw any discounting without price adjustments and dealer bloat packages negating it.

I found mine outside of Chicago in a smaller farm community Toyota store. This was back when a lot of Toyota stores would only sell to customers in their market. I reached out and they said they would sell to me since it was a manual and they would have a difficult time selling it otherwise. Ended up $2,900 off MSRP with the state capped $347 doc fee as only additional charge. 12 Lunar Rock trucks is insane!!! Glad you were able to find one.

I can see where comparing model years makes for difficult value comparisons. Building your specs online shows $44.9 for just the Premium with advanced tech and nothing else. Saying a closely configured 24 is 52.5 is a bit disingenuous because of the limitations of model year configurations. There are 2 things that make this a hard comparison, leather seats and MTM. Those are both locked behind the Premium package. So yes you have to spend $52.2. Drop those 2 options and you can get a similar spec for 48k

But in the opposite direction you are getting a 14" display, wireless charging, pre wire aux switches, an AC inverter, digital rearview mirror, trailer brake controller, and a power tailgate. On top of the sensors, driver assistance stuff, brakes, suspension, torque, fuel efficiency, increased payload, etc (not sure what the 23 comes with so you may have some of those). It also depends on when you bought your truck, 2022 was a long time ago in inflation years.

So I think trying to make 1 to 1 value comparisons don't work well for either side. I'm glad you are happy with you truck just like I am happy for people in a 24. But I think my original ~10% point stands for most trims if leather seats are not involved. I would guess toyota did that because most people don't buy leather in a truck.

I’d like to see a 4th gen curb weight thread. It’ll be interesting because it seems that the DC Non-hybrid 4x4 models have 1200lb stickers, but that seems to be a catch-all sticker. Toyota’s spreadsheets show more variations but I’ve seen 1200lb sticker on an SR5 long bed as well as a TRD OR Short bed. If it’s a coincidence it’s a pretty odd one. I think strictly in terms of GVWR-Curb, we might be seeing more legal payload than the sticker says. Obviously Toyota only recommends 1200lb, but I’m wondering if the weight numbers have a lot of leeway (the new tundras people are seeing 100-200lb difference between the stated payload and their actual gvwr-curb weight

I believe there was some misconception in the way the manual is read. It says something like “weight capacity is 150xnumber of seats, plus cargo” and people thought that meant 1200+150x5, but I believe it means the total payload of 1200=150x3+450, in which the 450 is the “cargo” that they mention. The numbers all work out too. They just essentially had to explain to consumers that 1200 is the total cap, and that if you had 5 150lb people, your cargo can weigh 450. They tried to basically explain how payload works, and muddied the water in doing so. Tldr: Payload is 1200, including passengers. If you have 5x150lb passengers, that gives you the 450 “cargo” you’re seeing

I think Toyota used the same sticker for multiple vehicles. I’ve seen 1200lb stickers on an SR5 king bed as well as an OR Short bed. We’re gonna have to wait for someone to weigh them on scales (I think motor trend or car and driver or TFL did). I also saw a chart showing that the difference between gvwr and curb weight was like 1300+ but the sticker only said 1200

Saw one on the road today. It was already past me and going in the opposite direction before I realized what it was. All I got was that it was red and one of the TRD variants. Unfortunately in the split second I saw it, that was about all the info I could gather.

Red! Good info, sir, I’ll put that in the notes.

I hope you know I’m making a lighthearted joke

From the pics I’ve seen online, the red looks super rad. Don’t think I’ve seen a taco in like fire truck red before but I really like it

The dealer where I bought my '23 now has 3 '24s on the lot. I have not warmed up to the looks of them. And holy cow, the price! They are selling them with no markup for $53k (they are all TRD Sport 4x4's)

Just a follow up on my previous post. Picked up my Off Road premium today. They originally offered 28K on a 2019 SR5 with 49200 miles and in very good shape. They later increased it to 28500 when we were making the drive out deal. I needed them to come down $500 more before I would go and get the cashiers check. Overall a good experience. Love the tech! Toyota really upgraded the tech. The different info your can display on the driving screen is almost overwhelming. Three different screens and info in the speed and teach gauges is 6 different things that you pick to display in pairs. Was messing with them all afternoon. Haven't set up my dash came yet. Two key fobs and a credit card fob. Also if your use the app you can download digital key. The regular fob is needed if your want to use the auto up/down tailgate which is pretty cool. JBL Sound system is fine, but you lose significant storage space. 14 Inch screen is crazy big but awesome! Wireless apple carplay is great too!

Especially since it saved me about $1780 on taxes versus the taxes on the full amount.
