Welding and metal fab training will start when I sell my business. I want to learn how to forge eventually too

And you’ll end up using it for many more types of projects...mine is an entry level Pro Axiom 8 24x48 (open) and I do everything from simple signs to elaborate carvings on it...CAD and creating files will be your biggest learning curve...btw: the Steampunk design took 32 hours and 6 bit changes to cut...hangs in my sons shop office...grandkids love their carvings...8FF2DAC7-C4B9-4728-B1AE-E98779E4A7CA.jpgF2FF5D7A-C5BA-4A29-9C90-FB5BC7D86C04.jpg84582BBA-2132-46BF-8AD8-5064500E33EA.jpg

Last leg is out of the clamps and cleaned up for the most part.
    20240213_183954.jpg
Clamps and glue are put away, paper is thrown out, etc. I'll wait for the weekend to work on the cross stretchers, I gotta get set up for it, I may have to move the bench top and legs on top of the old bench. That'll be a workout in itself, lol.

I almost purchased a Shapeoko 2’ x 4’ last Black Friday. I did not pull the trigger due to the computer learning curve. I decided that I personally enjoy time in the shop much more than in front of a screen. Due to this, I am planning to add some new machines the garage instead.

I need to find someone local that does work like this. I would like to have a 4’ x 4’ 3/4 MDF table top made with a grid of dog holes for a home made mft type table.

Check to see if you have any “ maker space” outfits near you...they offer intro classes and machine rentals...I took 3 different 3 hour classes over the 1st month along with about 12 hours rental...by that time I kinda knew which direction I wanted to go in and started my search for my machine...I had to go with a smaller footprint on the higher end machine due to $$$...next up is a 5x10 for larger projects/cabinets...

Yea, but if I play this thing right, I’ll have the money to invest in that and woodworking as my retirement job. At least have it to where my wife doesn’t kill me because I’m bored and annoying her. Need something to kill the time outside of hunting season

If you buy it, she might even change her FB status to "estranged, possibly widowed" because of the time you spend with it. :D

All this talk on cnc machines is cool but not my cup of tea. I dig what they can do but the space they take up and the expense is not appealing to me. Plus I'm not really computer literate, I know just enough to function. I can't even figure out sketchup. Lol. I even struggle with editing software for making videos.
I'm am just a woodworking hobbiest, I do it because I enjoy working with my hands and just love the craft. My shop is my escape from the world. I have a well equiped little basement shop and it's enough for me. The cnc rabbit hole is just not something I wish to go down. I do some metal working, mostly just fab stuff and cnc doesn't fit there either. I'm not saying it's a bad thing and I admire the guys that do it but it's just not for me. I'm an old dude at 63, was born and raised in a time before computers. Some guys my age get them and well there's guys like me that struggle with computers. It's probably just because I don't use them a lot or daily. I'm more of a hands on guy, a tool in hand makes me happy, it's how my brain works. So I'm nearing retirement and my shop will continue to be my happy place. I look forward to spending more time in my shop doing things the way I always have with a mix of machine work and hand tools but always using my hands.
Cnc's are cool, just not for me and the way my brain works. I guess I'm a dying breed.

Thanks brother. The goal right now is to get the stretchers done so I can get the base done. Just working in steps. It's hard to find the time to work on it because of the job that pays the bills. I get a couple hours here and there and some time on the weekends
