Well Toyota certainly isn’t doing anything to stop this crazy pricing. They are allowing both the ports to add all these accessories and the dealers to sell at mark ups.

In order to make money, you have to deliver product.

Intentionally not delivering product to a guy who's on the bloody edge of being able to afford it in the interest of pushing prices even higher doesn't make sense.

To be fair, I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories.

Maybe they've identified the first glitch with the truck and are holding vehicles while they assess the issue. This happened with some '23s, but I cant recall the issue. If so, this would make for an even glitchier roll out.

When i ordered my SCION FRS in 2015 (2016 model year) I went to my Toyota dealer, told them I don't even want the car unwrapped (white shipping plastic still attached from Japan) no dealer logos, no car wash. I paid $25k (MSRP) and they did it all. I still believe you can do this with a Tacoma but it could take time but a good dealer should comply with these easy wants if they want a sale.

Could be. We need one of the forum members to get a job at 'Yota Corp. We need a man on the inside. A mole.

That, or something better to do.

There are ~1300 Toyota dealerships in the US. It should come as no surprise that port lots will have large numbers of trucks to support the logistics of delivering to that many locations.

for work, I happen to see many holding lots for various manufacturers. They all have hundreds or thousands of vehicles near plants and ports to support large dealer networks.

or it’s a conspiracy, but every manufacturer is doing it because it’s a huge cartel!

They may not intentionally be not delivering product, but they sure don't hate it when the product is in just short enough of a supply to keep the inventory turning.

Giving the appearance of something being scarce or hard to obtain to keep sales and inventory turning quickly on something that is actually not scarce or hard to obtain is an age old sales tactic that works amazingly well....it even works on something that sales have peaked or fallen flat on....

Toyota moved enough trucks out of the ports to sell well over 600 daily, for 8 years running. So, it’s probably not a “conspiracy theory” to wonder if they’re intentionally tightening supply. That’s life sometimes, when you’re selling something expensive, and need to juice demand. The last thing you want this summer is your dealerships looking like they’re selling $70k Gladiators.

Maybe it’s just an early component failure. A month ago it was commonly accepted as the EPA’s fault so who knows. Would love to at least test drive one someday, but all the dealers around me just shrug.

Do you still have the plastic on the seats today? :D
I’m not sure if the dealers have a say in what the port add ons are. Maybe they do and they are the ones telling the port to install all this crap. Does anyone here know?

I was told that they (my dealer) instructed the port to leave the plastics on the wheels, hood, seats, etc.

My dealer has said in the past that some accommodations could be made both at port and manufacture (like color) but there is currently no way to make changes to the Tacoma at this point.

I thought the dealers removed all the plastic when the vehicles get to their lots so there is no damage during transport? Both of my current vehicles still had the plastic on them when I test drove them.

Well it came from Japan and transported to my dealer with the plastics on I just told them to keep it on and I took it off when I got the car home. I just removed the drivers seat plastics, wheel plastics, and steering wheel protector before I left the dealer. I guess they just told the port to not touch the plastics just in case they did try and remove them. My port was 10 miles away in Philly.

Their distributor/dealer sales model encourages this. And they are not doing anything to stop it.

My bet is that they’re metering supply to slowly build inventory and not suddenly dump a month’s worth on dealers. Yes, that can lead to short term juicing of sales prices of hype product, but isn’t a long term strategy for max profit. Inventory will come, just not all overnight
