Recent Tacoma owner here. I’ve been accidentally leaving my lights on with daytime use. I am used to a chime warning. I get the ignition chime, but nothing for lights or seatbelts. Maybe disabled by the previous owner?

With a second generation you can leave the lights on and the truck turns them off when you open the drivers side door. They will come back on when you start the truck again.

Take NOTE: they will stay on if the passenger side door is opened first.

Thanks for that! Also I am noticing the windows still work with the ignition off until you open either door.

What about the seat belts? No chime for being unbuckled while driving?

Should be a seat belt beeper unless someone turned it off, does the seatbelt light come on?

Seatbelt flashing light works, just no chime. I am cool with that. I am glad it's separate from the ignition chime.

I am glad about the auto headlight off feature, but it is an interesting design decision to have it so that the lights stay on if the passenger door is opened first. Closing the passenger door then opening the driver door does not override this. Not even tuning on accessories overrides this. Only an engine start then shutdown overrides this. Is there a purpose to having the lights stay on if the passenger door is opened first?

don’t recall ever hearing a chime on mine.

I turn the lights on and off manually. Have even turned them on to see working on the front end without engine running.

not a fan of auto switches. This typically comes in luxury cars with HID’s that results in premature component wear due to firing them on every time you drive under an overpass for 1 second where you don’t necessarily need a full beam over a parking/city light.

have not left them on. If this happens there’s manual push start, NOCOboost, and CTEK.

The windows are on a timer and will eventually stop after a timeout or you open a door.

I would guess the passenger side door thing is an oversight/glitch.

I'm pretty sure as soon as I open my driver's door they go off though, even if I opened the passenger side first.

Where I've gotten into trouble is when I leave the truck running for something (running winch or inverter, or lighting for an extended period) then just pop in the passenger door to turn it off and pull the key. Usually like 20 min later I look and see the lights still on. Just run out and open the drivers door and they turn off
