Saw my first 2024 at a dealership today. It was a 2wd sport with the upgrade package in silver with the smoke silver interior accents

If you want an actual step up in power and still need a truck bed get a BEV like an F150 Lightning for ~$45k that goes 0-60 in 3.9 seconds while getting 65 MPGe.

The pro has tons of stuff/amenities, it is not just a barebones work truck with a shittier suspension like the SR 4th gen is. They have XLT's as well for ~$45k. Towing range is 100% an absolute joke in all BEV's.

Tesla, Ford and Chevy EV sales are falling. Ford discounting the Lightning 10K (and cutting production). Seems like the market is reluctant to commit to an EV. I don't think we will see an EV Tacoma for a long time.

They are still producing ~6500 lightnings a month after the cut. My hopes are still high for a Toyota BEV truck in 2026. The lack of BEV adoption by Toyota is why the CEO got ousted last year. The new CEO immediately announced they will be launching 10 new BEV models by 2026 with a global annual production target of 1.5 million battery-electric cars by 2026.

    Not so fast:

https://electrek.co/2024/01/23/toyota-chairman-evs-30-market-share/#:~:text=During a lecture on the, engine cars will definitely remain.”

His promotion was not due to BEV adoption, but other reasons they will not disclose and we will never get the full story. Just the way things are done.

And then you have RAM introducing their BEV and a "not a hybrid" BEV with a range extending V6. Personally I am for BEvs. I don't think they would work (now) for everyone/everywhere, but I could make it work now and I'm sure it would be even easier in the next few years as the charging network grows.

It is clear to anyone who followed Toyoda's ousting that it was due to Toyotas hesitance to adopt BEV's.

Toyoda called it a "once-in-a-century" transformation. "I am an old-fashioned person," he said, hinting that his passion for cars stood in the way of the company adapting to next-generation trends like electrification. His resignation was necessary for Toyota to enter a "new chapter," he also stated.

Immediately upon promotion, Sato said his team will work to "accelerate electrification and create vehicles that meet local needs."

Obviously there will still be a healthy mix, that Sato targets as 70/30, but the ousting of Toyoda was very clearly due to lack of BEV adoption by Toyota with him at the helm.

Remember the days when politics wasn’t attached to every aspect of our lives? Simpler times I guess. Back on topic, I have a question for y’all that live in urban areas. Is 4WD necessary in these areas if you don’t planning on doing out road things? Seems like it is a nice feature to have but is the added cost worth it if you won’t be using it 99% of the time?

Yes, I read that at the time of release. Found it peculiarly pointed, almost dramatic. Time has proven that it was kabuki. There is still place for ICE, they are not going away.

LOL, nobody said ICE was going away, that is you inferring something nobody said. Toyota's lack of widespread BEV adoption is why he was ousted. they will have 10 BEV models by 2026, this is not all imaginary or kabuki.
