I replaced my needle bearing with the ECGS bushing and replaced both wheel bearing-hub assemblies (purchased from 05Taco4x4's press service thread- highly recommend). Pretty sure these components were still original at 255k miles. Very grateful to live in a place that doesn't rust & destroy vehicles!

Mounted the ARB compressor under the hood. Now I need to wire it. I tossed the ARB harness and I'll make my own.

Got my box of goodies from yoter parts dept today.

    She hit 120k last week

Pcv valve, old one still click-clacked but seemed kinda loose. Put the new one in just fine, minus not having a wrench to get it snugged up in the garage - quick trip to autozone and $15 wrench later...

Got a serp belt, hopefully throwing it in tomorrow

Got the 2 peice valve cover gaskets, that'll be a weekend job

Some crush washers & o-rings for diff & tranny soon

...and took the pups on a field trip

Bilstein 6112s installed today. I swapped out my 5100s with 885 coils to these.

How’s your assessment of the 6112? Big difference from the 5100?

The pullies just unbolt/bolt in? No fancy tools required?

Nope just a 12mm socket, and torque wrench. The only thing is the tensioner pulley is reverse thread.
29 ft pds on the upper idlers
40 ft pounds on the lower idler and tensioner pulley.

I've only got about 10 miles or so put on them so it's a bit early to tell, but they do seem to dampen much better and have an overall smoother ride than the 5100s. They still maintain that known Bilstein feel of tight highway handling which is nice too. I have mine on the #8/#10 clip settings which gives the truck approximately 2.25" of lift.

Not really "to my 2nd Gen" but - 'with'.

    upload_2024-2-14_14-20-5.jpg

So I'm moving and because I am old, I have stuff. There's a full-size box spring in there, diagonally. I pulled the topper lift down snuggly so the cap is supported, essentially, on the box spring. Being about 6" elevated, the topper was rock-solid during a 40 mile trip. If it wasn't for the TopperLift I'd have needed to rent something. Trailer. Van. Friend's truck? Next I have to carry a queen size mattress set the same way. Then washer and dryer.

btw my passenger axle nut was probably torqued to ~25ft lbs when I popped it off…. I was preparing for a battle.

Jada 51 Merc. Has screws in the bottom so I’m assuming someone painted this in primer. Has a few scratches and needs to be redone. 1/64

Nice. I have a Holosun 407K on my 43X and it does very well with the 6 MOA dot.

Based on my experience with my 05 TRD Sport, the "sponginess" is caused by the rubber hoses that are used between the steel brake tubing and the brake calipers. As the rubber ages, it gets soft(er) and, when the pressure from the mater cylinder rises as the brake pedal is depressed, the hoses expand. It is this expansion, as the rubber hose(s) flex, that is the cause of the "sponginess".

I installed stainless in place of the OEM rubber and my braking was improved significantly; and the "sponginess" is a thing of the past.

This does assume that all else within your brake system is up to par and that your vehicle has been around for a while, meaning that the OEM rubber has softened over the years.

    YMMV

Do you happen to have a link or part number for the stainless lines that you used?

Also interested in knowing what you think of that camera. Getting geared up to swap the head unit in my 06 and can add up to 3 cameras while I'm at it. Was already planning on putting one in the tailgate handle, but I like how subtle this one is and was thinking something in the front would be nice to have.

    Not really.

I did a Google search: 2005 tacoma stainless steel brake line

I got a ton of hits and shopped for a good price and free shipping.

I think the flex in the brake lines is the cause of most of the frustration folks have with the braking on the Tacoma's. As light as these trucks are, having disks in the rear is not really a big deal. For example, I had a 1977 motorcycle that had front disk brakes and a drum in the rear. I sold the bike with ~105K miles on it and the rear brake shoes were like new because the only time I used the rear brake was when I was stopped on a hill or I wanted to lockup the rear brake (which was only during a panic stop).

Well wasn't today but this last weekend. had a funeral this week so late to the updates.
New leafs, New bump stops and New Fox 2.0 shocks. I'll say those damn foxes are tight in the lower mounts. Got annoyed and took them to my grinder and removed a bit of the material off both sides of the bushing and finally slipped in. But was a pain for a bit. Just a little off both sides. but at one point i had my adjustable wrench out trying to open up the ears, tried a piece of box metal to square it up. hell even tried to use prybars and even my "alignment" point on my wrench. nothing worked well but hey they are way nicer then my old OEM leafs and my 2020 Bilstein 4600 take offs from a friends tacoma.

oh an don't mind the 4600's I just didn't drop them both off when installing because I wanted something to help me align things just in case

Braided brake lines would help, especially with the heavy lifting up front, but the rear brakes on Tacomas are bad. Manually adjust the rear brakes properly and see how the brakes should work. Also notice how quickly they go out of adjustment and back to mush.
