4.88 or 5.29 on a manual 3rd gen

    295/70/17 King 2.5 w Adjusters 3” lift w Add a Leaf
    I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD off road 6 speed manual transmission I plan on re gearing soon I have 295/70/17 no armor and it’s my weekend warrior what ratio should o go with I plan on upgrading to 35s in the future with maybe sliders andtube steel bumpers if I go 5.29 now will it be too much or should I do 4.88 andrehear again once I have the 35s? Pleasehelp!

    5.29 all the way. I’ve been driving a manual on 5.29s with stock tires and 32’s for over a year and it’s been great. No way I’d want to spend the money to only get 4.88 for 295s or 35’s.

    5.29 on 35’s will be just very slightly lower than stock. Basically enough to make up for the added weight and leverage of the 35’s.

    Not that I've changed, but the jump from 4.30 to 4.88 isn't very big. If you want to feel a difference, I'd go 5.29. The larger tire will offset a little bit of the RPM gain.
