Okay so i will look for a dana 44, i want a solid axle as my truck is used as a work truck and i keep bottoming out the ifs and getting stuck.
It is a 4x4 ifs right now, but i dont know what it was from the factory as it is a mutt truck and i have no clue what is original and what was added on later.
I have a rear e locker, but i dont know if the front is or not as i cant get the inspection plates off as they are rusted on to the truck.

If you can't keep from getting stuck and you have a 4x4, then you need experience.

That and at least some 32s or 33s, 31s are tiny.

You're going to end up lifting your rig (if you ever figure out the SAS).

You will net far worse mileage than it gets now.

If gas mileage is of financial concern, then skipping this butcher job will save you tons of money to cover your gas expenses.

Did I mention going SAS will cost you more? You'll end up sitting higher than stock. Not to mention the money spent on parts purchased. Hell, just the time spent making parts and consumables used up in the process.

I can't apply any more logic than I already have.

    Goodluck

I wheel with a guy in a ZJ that only uses 31's. He does pretty well, but he doesn't baby his rig. Like @Kwikvette said, you need some more seat time. My other friend uses his stock XJ axle with chromoly shafts and abuses it with 35's and he has no issues. If you don't ever plan to abuse your truck or go with bigger tires, then the Dana 30 would be perfectly fine. Personally I probably would just do a Dana 44 with chromoly shafts or an 80 series axle if you found one cheap enough.

No more logic? Com'on. Solid axle to turn 31, that's OP goal. OP don't want to go taller but question when he keep in getting stuck. Honestly, OP need a front selectable locker and that will solve his issue. Or just buy a Jeep with a d44 and no fab work needed.

OP, you honestly think adding all that crap with a solid axle will not be heavier than it currently is? You're wrong

Another factor is that i am working with what my tiny junkyard has laying around, in other words limited selection of stuff to use i dont have a big city yard to go to, my yard has maybe 125 vehicles there and if lucky 2-3 new vehicles each year.

OP you need to rethink this whole thing through. Slapping a solid axle under the front isn't going to magically allow you to never get stuck again. If your sole purpose of going solid axle is to "not get stuck" or "not bottom out" you need to reassess what modifications/changes really needs to happen. Not trying to be an ass, but based off your replies you are not capable of a project like this. By all means prove me wrong. You're doing it for the wrong reasons.

You wanna swap a solid axle and a TDI but not spend money?

    Dallas?

    More weight = more gas..

So you're saying you can't bottom out a solid axle? Might want to reconsider

That's what we're saying. Maybe weld the axle directly to the frame?

OP would be better off getting some 255/85/16 tires and sending it.

A short bus 2wd front axle sounds fitting

Why do I feel like the OP is going to buy a Dana 30, or whatever this yard has, axle, in spite of all the responses...?
